Have to say Im gutted! Came down for the two days and with dad in tow was aiming to set of slightly earlier. Looked to south when heading home only to see the VULCAN flying over Quorn! Would have stayed there to sample the last action and seen it otherwise.

Did anyone get it in frame with a train?

There's a couple of phone snaps on the Preserved Diesels Facebook group of it passing over the DMU at Swithland loop.

There is a shot on Flickr of someone getting the Vulcan down at Swithland with a train on the viaduct.

What a great day at the GCR in fabulous weather. Great timetable plenty of action and all the engines looked superb in the sunshine especially the Hall. Hats off to all concerned at the GCR for another great gala and for getting the Hall back in steam after recent setbacks.

Anyone got a link to the photos please... Id be curious to see. I am gutted I missed it by an hour!

Having checked out a flight plan, it seems it was checking the area looking for a reservoir as a turning point. Hence the few circles. Someone has definately got one for all time there.

Just a shame the engine is ever so slightly out of view. Still a good photo to get the pair on!

I was at this gala Fri Sat Sunday all day

On Saturday afternoon, D5185 came out for one round trip on the freight working at 14:xx and then a knock on effect of different steam locos on unbooked turns.

What was the CAUSE of this - because as far as I could see nothing actually failed. But I was not at Loughborough at the time to see what was going on there.

    Hi Nick,

6990 missed a turn. 92214 took its turn on the passenger, 48624 then took 92214's turn on the local. At least that is how it looked to me.

Yes that's what i saw ... but those are the symptoms though ... not the cause .. what was the cause of 6990 missing a turn . Did it actually fail ? No-one seemed to think it had at the time, notwithstanding the difficulties preceding Saturday.

6990 was starting to get hot again, the tender axle was also starting to get hot and therefore the decision was made for it to have a trip out to cool down and a bit of maintenance in order for it to work the last train.

Must admit that there was plenty of room on the trains whilst traveling on Sunday. Think it needed a big name loco to bring in the crowds and the TPO would have been nice to see whilst line side. Still a very worthwhile visit ... and where else can you get a timetable like it with all those movements, and which ran to time even with engine failures on Saturday. Well done for keeping it going and getting 6990 sorted for Sunday. The Vulcan bomber made a nice cameo on Sunday around Swithland but I dont think it was down to the GCR for that (plus a Dakota flying past on saturday)

There's a chance to see the Vulcan fly for the final time this coming weekend performing a national tour.
On Saturday it will cover the north of the country and on Sunday the south.
The route is to be announced tomorrow, Wednesday,7th October. <BJ>

If someone can figure out a way to link to my photo on the Preserved Diesels FB group then that's all fine with me. I can't work out how to do it!
