‘GlosWarks’ £900k Christmas present

    Fresh from celebrating passing the halfway mark in raising the £1.25 million needed to finish the extension to Broadway, the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway has set its sights on raising £900,000 by Christmas.

    GWSR Finance Director Chris Bristow said: “I hope to get around the £900,000 level by Christmas and then put some pressure on all those who have been holding back from investing to come up with their cash and get us over the finishing line by April 30, although it’s possible we may do better than this.”

    The current total raised by the GWSR’s ‘Broadway – The Last Mile’ share issue stands at £670,000, just twelve weeks since the launch of the share issue on April 6. Almost £8,000 a day has been raised so far.

    He went on to say: “I’m thrilled and humbled at the generosity of so many people. For a voluntary organisation like ours to attract such a flow of funds is extraordinary.

    “This means that we are pressing ahead with ordering rail from British Steel at Scunthorpe as well as other materials. We are also pressing on with vital drainage and civil engineering works, which have to be finished before the rest of the last mile of track goes down.”
