If it's the A3 what's the odds on it carrying the Jacobite or Tin Bath headboard?.

Wonder if this explains the 1425 departure (normally 1440)?

    Current Status showing:

A signalling problem at Carlisle and a landslip between Carlisle and Preston is causing disruption to journeys in the Carlisle area.

First TransPennine Express and Virgin Trains services have to run at a reduced speed because of a landslip. This is causing delays of up to 30 minutes to journeys between Preston and Carlisle.

Northern Rail services in the Carlisle area are being delayed by to to 45 minutes.

Virgin Trains say the landslip was southbound between Carlisle and Penrith so theoretically, the northbound route should be running.

What has been forgotten about the need for diesel on the back, it will be needed at the single line working on the S&C as heading south requires a set back to run wrong line, propelling with passengers on board is not allowed these days.
Update, appears that the need for loco on the back to set back did not apply.

The Northern services have been running a delayed time table for some time now because of the single line working on S&C.

Thanks Ralph. I see WCME only left Carnforth UDGL +5 though now showing 13 late at Penrith.

Should have flown Shap 50+ with 10. Are there still TSRs on the climb?

In amongst all the other topics relating to today's WCME, one notable feature of this tour seems to have gone un-remarked. As I understand it, part of the plan for today was that 86259 would carry a headboard on the Euston-Carnforth leg to commemorate the 50th anniversary of its introduction on January 1966, and to celebrate the yeoman service that it has delivered over the intervening half century. I saw the plate (plus a banner sized board with "86259/ 50" superimposed on an image of the loco) being couriered to Willesden in readiness for this morning's run while I was at Banbury station late morning yesterday, and I wonder if anyone managed to capture an image of the headboard in situ on this morning's CME outward leg.

Maybe not the hottest topic for this particular thread on this particular day, but definitely a notable and noteworthy anniversary....and, I would hope, not one of interest solely to the heritage modern traction followers within the NatPres enthusiast base (although I didnt spot anything about this elsewhere on the Diesel and Electric Traction Forum.

A YouTube search will confirm for you that nothing was on the front of Peter Pan at Nuneaton.

Seems to be hugely delayed by the single line working. No reports on RTT since Petteril Bridge at 1430. 2H88 passed Low House at 1536, so presumably the Duchess is waiting for this to clear the single line section.

With problems around Leighton Buzzard the Virgin Services are all running late today so hard to place blame on a Steam Charter starting well away from the source of Virgins problems. Must have cleared with the electric before the problem hit.
