Quite why is observing absence of the previously listed 46100 and route ambiguity pointless?
And why is it your purpose to criticise?

I wish Crewe would be the location for steam to be attached given that 46233 could power most of these tours. And that would work well for 46100 as well.

But it would extend the day, and it might be no longer possible for passengers and stewards using public tranport to get to Euston to travel on it.

Isn't 6100 down for a NWCE fairly soon.?

Yes, 6th Feb. Then it was due to take some of the WCMEs. The email quoted above implies this is not so. Unless they mistyped 46115 instead of 46100

All credit to the RTC/WCRC for not leaving everyone to guess which locomotive will be on the train. It just strikes me as good practice to be clear what is planned. We all know that plans can change but the old pattern of leaving things till much later before giving clues was not particularly helpful for the people for whom the motive power was important. And as has been said by Paul42, it's only if the trip starts at Crewe that you stand a chance of the loco coming on there. London starts just have to have a fast electric to get you up to Carnforth for the steam to come on.

Agreed there Al, much improved. Hope nobody too disappointed the chance of 46100 seems to have been deferred. There is another trip in March, the Scot commemorative, over S&C though. Ironically the original train (1965?) was hauled by 46115 but the 2016 train is 46100.

Yes it was 46115, it's last run before being sold. As I was on that run I have no option but to be on this one as well.

It's 16th April 2016, RTC is running it and 46115 doesn't have a listed duty - odd its not the chosen loco given the historical symmetry.

When it was first mooted last year it was said that 46115 would be the loco of choice for obvious reasons.

It would be nice if a quid pro quo exchange of one WCME for 46115 went to 46100 and the former takes up its proper place IMHO.

While it would be nice, RTC would have to pick up the addtional expense of the ecs for 46100 to and from Carnforth for just one trip, and the cost of the crews etc to bring 46115 to and from Crewe with the coaching stock.

You are assuming 46115 is available.

For once though the customers were fully aware of the possibility of a substitute and what it would be so no cause for complaint.

It doesn't come much better than two Black 5s over the S&C

Wonder if the route will revert to tradition too now that no loco under test and assumed caution about heading straight over Shap?

Hopefully not. Two black fives going northbound over the S&C is rare.
