The PLC has put out a request for donations please donate to the address on the video
With reference to Robin and Alforts posting on the subject it now appears that the PLC has now sent everyone home and nobody is work on the railway.

Did someone call for a lawyer?

You need to look at the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act 1994 s 17. The offence is, properly, 'demanding money with menaces'.

Always nice to see you are as positive about the Railway as ever, Rodney.

The full WSR plc announcement makes plain that this is a precautionary measure while arrangements are put in place to meet the government's social distancing strictures.

Due to the idiots over the weekend I believe there will be a total shutdown imminently so I'm just being ahead of the game. I do notice the PLC are asking for donations directly and not via other organisations, why? is it because they need cash today? I have donated via the link on the video and I suggest others do the same. Your railway needs you.

Surely not? @mvpeters is not demanding money at all, he's offering to donate some if... So it's "offering money with conditions". That might be classed as bribery, I suppose?

I guess the railway company still has bills to pay so I've sent them a donation.

Interesting. No money is being demanded at all. It's just someone choosing to attach a condition to a donation. Their money and therefore their choice. It is not likely to get the required response but that's not the point, is it?

West Somerset Railway Association launches ‘WSRA TV’

To assist our railway community, the WSRA has today launched ‘WSRA TV’ a you tube channel.

This intention is to publish short videos dealing with WSR subjects of interest to supporters, which could include the work of departments on the Railway, Railway Groups and individuals. Forthcoming videos will deal with the line’s history, locomotives track rolling stock and the like.

The channel can be found by seeking out the introductory video:

    https://m.youtube.co./watch?v=hzSdurHDFoo

and it is expected that new material will be loaded over the coming days as it becomes available.

Social distancing will be respected, and much (perhaps most) of the work to produce content will be done electronically.

    WSRA Trustee, Robin White said:
‘The WSRA Trustees have thought hard about how we can support our Railway comminuity through the difficult weeks ahead until normality returns. This initiative will hopefully produce a body of material useful to the Railway for the future. If our first efforts are a bit amateurish, please forgive us as we learn but its been a steep learning curve. What we would most like to hear now is what content supporters would like to see. We are working on things like logos and format but thought it was important to get things going.’

The WSR Trustees have been pleased to welcome WSR plc Director Martin Brown to the Advisory group overseeing this work, along with Trustees Diana Ricketts-Tanner and Robin Moira White.

They can be contacted via the WSRA website: www.wsra.org.uk

As I said on the other WSR thread that's ongoing: the WSR always seems to be one railway when it suits people, and a constellation of small groups who are barely aware of each other when it doesn't.

Anyway, regardless of which side of this particular genteel arm-wrestle you support, Gift Aid is useful for two reasons. Firstly as Robin pointed out, the charity can increase the size of the donation. Secondly, Gift Aid makes charities more attractive recipients to high-earning donors, because said donors can use the donation to reduce their tax bill.

    WSR Loco histories.

The next videos for WSRA-TV will look at the histories of our resident locos. Railway author and WSR signalman has kindly agreed to write short histories of the locos.

But we need some photos and perhaps videos of the locos.

First off, we will tackle 5193, or 9351 as she became.

Who can help with still photos or videos if the loco in pre-preservation service, during conversion to a tender loco or in service on the WSR?

West Somerset Railway TV moves channel.

Following discussions among the WSR family over the past day, the WSRA is delighted to announce that we have been asked to re-badge our ‘TV’ initiative to make clearer that we are managing this on behalf of the whole West Somerset Railway family.

We have taken the opportunity at the same time to move the channel to a new you tube location which will be more resilient during the difficult days ahead. It was easier to do this while the content was limited.

The new channel can be found at:

    https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZFaYG5_kwQ4rKuSovan9_w

And a short video explaining the move at:

That's good news. I truly believe the WSR will be in a much better place when ordinarily these things are never distinguishable between "Plc" or WSRA" and, rather than having discussions to join things up, things just are "WSR".

    Your TV Channel needs you.

    ‘Let the people speak’

We can easily work up 10 and 20 minutes of something from you into a short video. Who are you, why do you volunteer? Were you involved in a memorable WSR event? What do you love about the West Somerset Railway? And so on.

All we need is the audio recording of you (although a video recording from a mobile phone would be great) and we can work that up with titles and appropriate still photos added.

    Robin White,
    Di Ricketts-Tanner, WSRA Trustees.

Probably best not to stream it live. There are a lot of angry WSR followers out there at the moment. <BJ>
