The NEC is expensive to exhibit at, Stoneleigh park is not far away and has a decent amount of space, easier parking and (according to people I have spoken with) is significantly cheaper.

The facilities and eateries on site are less pricey too......

If the same people have organised for thirty years fair play to them saying lets finish on a high and retire gracefully

that another generation hasn't stepped up in the preceding years to take over is indicative of a bigger problem in our movement (not least very ageing boardrooms)

This year at the NEC was noticably quieter with previous stand holders noticably absent . the feedback from them was it was too expensive and the returns they got didn't justify the cost . Other forums were full of complaints about the cost of parking at the NEC so whilst a premier location, the cost of it to both the organisers and visitors ultimately becomes an equation that can't be solved .

    Why?

When the big agricultural events are run there are buses laid on. I wouldn't expect it to be any different.

There is a difference between a volunteer run show and the professional events at Stoneleigh apart from the requirement to run buses from the 3 rail stations that are used for that venue, the packed platforms at the NEC rail station showed how many enjoyed a train direct to the event. Expecting volunteers to add bus organisation to the effort is ridiculous.

The 16mm Association ran buses from Coventry Station when they held exhibitions at Stoneleigh

Compared to dealing with a) NEC people and b) model railway exhibitors, organising a shuttle bus would be straightforward by comparison! Plenty of railways put on shuttle buses to link to their nearest mainline station for galas and gala planning teams are often all or mostly volunteers. This seems a strange forum to suggest limitations on what volunteers can achieve...!
