ASLEF strikes do not normally impact on tours do they, other than removing a lot of service trains getting in the way.:)

And there should be no problem to find a path for the diesel to shadow the tour to Lincoln and back rather than being hung on the back :D

Not if one or more of the drivers on the day are ASLEF members

But also requires the driver's used by VT to be a driver of another TOC that is in dispute. Even then, depends on the contract VT use for said driver and whether the role is essentially a sub contract from a TOC in dispute or driver is employed by VT direct on a separate contract. The latter would class as sympathetic striking, something the government has made illegal for a while now.

Not perhaps one of Britain's most famous named trains but 5043 heads The Melton Pieman away from Syston Jnc. 5043 Syston NP.jpg

May it also be something as simple as needing route knowledge
Presumably that would also affect if you had a route conductor brought in

Indeed, a route conductor which again would have to be in dispute with their employer.

Drifting from VT slightly, but a few years back on a different forum I understood because some of the steam drivers at various operators were on, (or effectively on, if not their main employer) zero hours contracts ASLEF would refuse to represent them. It was also stated that ASLEF members had been told to refuse such folks cab access for route learning. Is that still the case?

I had a very enjoyable trip on the Harringworth Shuttle today. It was my first time on a Vintage Trains trip and I was really impressed. The stewards were all friendly and helpful, especially with the short platforms at Melton! I was in coach G at the very back but even from there I could hear 5043 (which, as usual, was turned out immaculately) pounding along with no audible assistance from the diesel at any point on the steam-hauled leg.

Believe diesel pilots steam to Wembley, diesel runs round to rear. Steam leads to Hornsey, then diesel leads to Kings Cross, steam leads to Lincoln.

Anybody know the date they plan on doing the 1Z64 recreation next May? Will it be on the 9th sixty years to the day or on Saturday 11th?

It's in the latest Trackside mag apparently, released today.
