Anyone doing this reasonably priced jaunt around the Surrey Hills next Saturday? A decent circular tour run by UK Railtours with 34067 Tangmere providing the motive power for only a fraction of the price for the usual VSOE trip over the route. I'm doing it to tick off the Reading line that branches off at Redhill, and to take in some of the lesser-known circuits around London, whilst enjoy the climb through the Mole Valley between Dorking (Deepdene) and Betchworth.

Should be a good run, it's been a while since Tangemere did a Surrey Hills tour with the poor man's

Vosey. I learnt over the weekend the West Coast red stock is being brought down from Carnforth to

do this run. Not sure if they will throw in a mock Pullman for the dining !

UK Railtours site mentions 12.08 kickoff from Vic. the same route as Clan Line last Saturday.

    Lets hope the weather's better.

According to the UKRT website, its no longer going via Clapham Junction at the start, but going via Willesden West Junction, crossing the GW mainline at Acton, rejoining the original route at Feltham. In other words, an interesting route got just that little bit more interesting...

I went on the Downsman back in 2004 when it was being promoted by Hertfordshire Railtours. I was still able to buy a child ticket then - it cost me £15.50 if i remember rightly! Oh how times change!!!
