    Hi folks,

Two of our tank wagon restoration projects on the GCR (Shell-BP A6071 and A6581) are devoid of all works, registration and ownership plates. We would like to order replicas but we have hit a snag - whilst we know the registration details and build year for both, we don't know the build month which is needed for the 'star' plate.

Does anyone know where the tank wagon registration details are held? We had been led to believe that they were in the Shell archive but that avenue has drawn a complete blank.

A6071 was registered LMS 168901 in 1948 and A6581 was registered GWR 7450A, also in 1948. (Although by 1948 the LMS and GWR had ceased to exist their registration series was still in use and the plates carried the initials of the old companies that year.)

Also if anyone has livery/lettering drawings, those would be nice too!

    Any pointers appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Phil

Have you tried the NRM to see if there is any of this information in their hands, and also check with Kew as they have a lot of information on wagons and this is where the later GWR wagon information is held.
