Does changing the operational railway into a charity legally allow a ticketing structure that means Gift Aid is permitted pleased?

Presumably the route for pure donations is already OK for Gift Aid, which suggest they are accepted by a part of a Heritage Railways structure (including Swanage) that is already a registered Charity and can claim back Gift Aid? I always try and make sure that is the route my donations go.

Mods, this subject may deserve a thread of it's own?

As @Jamessquared says, there are a couple of other relevant threads, which I won't duplicate. I will however make a simple point - only charities can claim Gift Aid, and they can only do so based on money given directly to them. So if there were a charity called the 35B railway operated by the 35B RailCo Ltd, you could give to the charity but the company couldn't claim Gift Aid on sales. If the 35B RailCo Ltd were converted to a charitable form (itself allowing for a long discussion), it could then claim Gift Aid on those sales.

Passing Norden this morning I noticed an HGV delivering what may well be what I assumed was some of the metal structure for the shed. I assume this will be trip worked by a 33 hauled freight at some stage, although would look better behind Manston or the U, although the latter faces the wrong way of course. But then you cannot have everything:)

Having to take some rubbish down the recycling centre I happened to glance across to Herston and noticed structure has appeared for the shed. Only had my pocket camera so the quality is poor, but an image from Washpond Lane Bridge. IMG_3308.JPG

The carriage shed is such a massive, huge step in the right direction. For many years the railway has been bashed about its facilities but look, its happening, better late than never! Well done to all involved.

I can’t believe the carriage shed is finally being finished. This will be a huge asset to the railway !

While only 10 carriages this is still huge. How many carriages in total does the railway have excluding from the DMU/TC set?

10 for day to day running (2 x 5 car services) then maybe another 10 for spares and the extra unrestored heritage coaches ?

    News from swanage railway email.

they want to raise 20k to restore a 3rd TC carriage (76275) to bring back the TC set in 2026 .

However first question, i thought that they had restored 3 cars already and doing the final touches on the brake car?

    Can anyome explain ?

76275 had some electrical work, and a quick paint job back in 2016 or 17 to tidy it up before it left St Leonard’s.

Its last overhaul would have been under BR back in the late 80s or early 90s, and unfortunately some of the windows frames have started to come away from the body letting water get in. This has resulted in some fairly severe corrosion in places, rotten floors and other woodwork.

Just seen their reply on Facebook, the carriage looks bad . Ouch ’ ! This is really why the railway needs undercover storage.

Sad, frustrating news with the TC set but 2026 is near

It's possible the London Underground owned 4TC might be available again for the May diesel gala, with a 'Jurassic Crompton’ rail tour from London and then work push pull with 33111?.
By May the Swanage 4TC group might be able to show 2 restored carriages and use the gala to help fundraising to get the unit back running for 2026.

I have seen a statement elsewhere from the BLS (who ran last year's "Jurassic Crompton") that they won't be doing so this year.

33111 is currently at Barrow Hill undergoing overhaul and "cosmetic surgery" and is not due back to Swanage until late 2025.
