That was my point really. I suspect you have to be close to a major conurbation full of relatively well off people to run premium dining at scale. Also it isn’t really a family thing - I see few children - whereas the camping, caravanning and self catering that dominates the holiday provision around Swanage is quite largely family oriented?
If you have to steam an engine for the dining train I don’t see the economics working too well.
Your point about price is one which is biting everywhere. Heritage railways look expensive compared to other entertainment that is available.

D6515 has replaced the steam loco for some reason but 33111 is off to the Bluebell Railway today.

Happened to notice that 33111 had moved when I opened the blinds. As I had to drop the wife off at Herston I thought I would pop down to Norden where I assumed it would be in the process of being loaded on a low loader. Therefore surprised as I past New Barn to see the two 33's with the 10:00 running a few minutes late. A couple of grabbed shots at Afflington and Corfe Viaduct. IMG_4540.JPG IMG_4543.JPG

The evening DMU service has been well patronised. Lovely shot from Andrew PM Wright of the Hybrid 117/121 unit approaching Woodyhyde.

Lets not forget the evening DMU ran daily for summer over a number of years.
It's great they took the risk to run it on Fridays and Saturdays and it not only pays for itself through the evening cheap fares but brings more people onto the day steam service cause they can catch the later train home

Thankfully not a major failure as 31806 has just arrived at Corfe Castle on the 09.50 from Swanage.:)

    Seen on the Swanage webcam.

The T3 was out of the shed and coaled when I walked past around midday. Already for its weekend in the rain if the forecast and weather warnings are to be believed.

This is what was posted on their Facebook page this morning.

"It’s day 1 of 3 of the Classic and Steam Vehicle Show at Harmans Cross today and the Bournemouth and Poole Preservation Club are ready to welcome you to the event despite the unsettled weather overnight!
Trains are running on our Green Timetable today with U Class 31806 on the steam service and the 117 DMMU on the diesel service. Steam services on Saturday and Sunday will be operated by our LSWR T3 number 563!
It’s also the last chance to travel on the Sunset Shuttle service tonight and Saturday night - discounted tickets are available for this service or you can also travel using your existing return ticket that has been purchased earlier in the day."

It was in steam on the shed when I took a couple of shots on the way back from the town.
