Well, we have two currently on the Bluebell ... The more pertinent question if you are going to have a Victorian question is - with which carriages?

I guess the "few" here witnessing the departure of the freight, or the arrival of Lord Dowding would agree with you as well. IMG_3101BW.jpg IMG_3114BW.jpg

Unfortunately, I think the jokes on you lot, that Victorian Weekend [22nd - 24th March] looks like the steam gala.

    So.... HA! HA!

    Website actually says Victoria weekend.

    Finally, some one with sense!

    Few railways have some:
    Bluebell.
    Isle Of Wight.
    Keighley.
    East Lancs.

Is the website going to be changed to Victorian?
SR has 5 non running Victorian carriages in various locations (picture is at Corfe Castle from the Swanage Railway-Heritage Carriage Group page, but unlikely to be ready this year.
So looks like SR will need to borrow some locos and carriages from the Bluebell and other railways?
30053 was built in 1906, 5 years too late to be Victorian, and also not ready in time.

The SVR did a Victorian Weekend back in 2012, I remember travelling behind that well known Victorian machine numbered 43106…

Have you even the remotest conception of how long it takes to restore a grounded carriage body?

Never mind "unlikely to be ready this year" - if you wanted the Swanage carriages to be a five coach Victorian train ready for a gala later this year, you probably needed to have started on them in about 1990 ...

In the Titfield Thunderbolt film Dan Taylor's home which was a old grounded carriage body was strapped on to a low loader flat wagon, so the train service could restart and even got passed by an inspection.
But agree in the real world a proper restoration, with the interior, underbody frames and wheels built from new, would be lengthy and costly.

March was never the anticipated date for a hoped for Bulleid Gala that was mooted in the railway press.

The Facebook announcement says the SR website is still being updated for the Victorian event. (Is this the first time as SR normally has a 1940/50 period emphasis?)

It also says there is a further event update on FB on Sunday, maybe June's Bulleid weekend, could also tie in with the remembrance of the Battle of Britain?

Yes the bullied weekend was talked about in June. So that would be fantastic. Whether it would be a full blown gala or a mini one not sure. If they can get 4 bullieds and another shunting loco then that could work very well if they dont go, 'over the road' otherwise its spreads them abit further apart.

Has any of the over the road gala timetable ever worked?? The shuttle can never run on time and then the Southbourne down service normally waits 20 25 minutes cause of the other late trains?

The Victoria weekend looks interesting! But to class it as such surly need at least another 1 2 Victoria steam locos. And as soon as they bring in carrages then the costs SHOOT up!

We got 4 pre BR stock which is a tiny bit more historic to play around with

Sorry which 4 pre BR stock coaches are you referring to?
There are the two Maunsell's and Car 14 was originally pre BR before conversion so what else is serviceable?

Sp10 as my old English teacher used to scribble in red. The same error repeated resulted in Sp100.

So the new open Maunsell cars, plus the bullied break and corridor. so 4 in total.

Question is, (am I being negitive) . Whats the point of people putting effort and money into restoring more heritage carriages (for example another bullied break) if they don't even use the 4 they are atm. Dont think either of the bullied have been use for months. Perhaps since the 2024 diesel gala ????
