I'm not convinced about the analysis - you also need to allow for the fact that charity donations, especially with appeals running, also come from companies and are ineligible for Gift Aid. Earlier indicative numbers from NYMR suggested that the proportion of eligible fares Gift Aided was nearer 80%, which is more consistent with my experience administering Gift Aid on donation income.

There’s far too much focus here on gift aid, and not enough on the other benefits of this proposal. As an SVR Member, and volunteer, I’d be very disappointed if this didn’t get voted through. It’s needed to happen for a long time.

The acid test is whether the change would be a good one even without any Gift Aid benefits. I'm pleased to see members lining up behind the principle of this - accepting that many won't yet have seen the details.

Given discussions about and my experiences at a couple of other railways, my major concern would be if the proposed changes acted to concentrate control of the new organisation with the board, and diluted the ability of ordinary members to have their voices heard. You could call it the "Nabarro Test".

Thanks and I hope you're right. I don't want to come over as being critical of the proposal. In fact as a shareholder/member/patron of the 3 organisations, I'm very much in favour of it, although obviously I'm waiting for the information pack to see the details.

I received and read mine today. I’m in (as a member, shareholder and erstwhile volunteer).

I was thinking of visiting on one of the days leading up to Christmas, probably Monday 23rd.
However looking at the timetable it only mentions the Carol Trains on that day, no regular timetable A or B.
So do I interpret that to mean that only the Carol Trains are running on that day?

Yes. That would normally be Santa services anyway, but it is just one Carol train that day.

I feel a little sorry for the poor staff members / volunteers who have to come and put a warming fire in the steam locos on Christmas day!

Well having read my “The One Railway Project” booklet I am even more behind the proposals than previously! Seems like an all round winner.

I think so too. It's important those of us qualified to do so vote for it. The apparent need for a 75% majority of voters is concerning me.

Personally I think that is achievable. Let’s be honest the boards have been very open and honest in that booklet, and that is what a number of people have always asked for. So that alone should be viewed as a positive.

    I'd love to do that.

I can't be bothered with all the seasonal nonsense, it does nothing for me either on an religious or "enforced fun" front.
