2999 arrives in the very near future as a summer visitor, and then is going to remain for gala. Plenty more to be announced. A very productive gala meeting was held a few weeks back so all being well a good event in store

Bahamas is one I’ve been looking forward to seeing announced for a while. Shaping up to be a very good event

    Yes, Yes, Yes!

Had hoped Leander may have paid a visit prior to expiry of her ticket, but Bahamas is just as good!

Been a very long time since a Jubilee was heard up the valley.

I have booked my stay at the Kidderminster Premier Inn and am really looking forward to attending.

    I note the website says:

Early morning and late evening service

Does this mean all night running does not feature this year? Not complaining, just curious, I rarely stay beyond midnight anyway.

I have so many happy memories of SVR Galas and this one is shaping up very well…

I believe a decision on the Overnight is still to be taken at the moment so I don’t think there’s a confirmation either way. Like with many a things heritage at the moment it’s all balancing costs, and running an overnight service is not always profitable.

You are quite correct though, it is shaping up to be a fantastic event. Bahamas is very much something nice.

Yes, Leander was last here as a guest in 2010, and of course was a home loco in the 1980s and 1990s (Galatea was also here for some of that time, un-restored and officially as a source of spare parts for Leander!). Kolhapur visited in 1986 and 1988, and Bahamas visited in 1994.

Think it was the '88 visit when Kolhapur brought the 14(?)-coach evening train back to Bridgnorth . Was stood on Bridgnorth station in the darkness and the roar in the distance was very special. Earlier had watched Lady Armaghdale struggle to pull the train up into the station for the 8F to take out,

I am not remembering the 2010 visit - was it Spring or Autumn? Will have to check my photos - ironically I do just about remember the 1994 visit! Either way, long overdue..

Lo & behold, here it is at Highley - seems I caught a ride behind it from Hampton Loade at the 2010 autumn gala!

I visited on Saturday, 27th September. The guest line up was really good, namely 5690 Leander, 34070 'Manston' and 3440 'City of Truro'. <BJ>

I remember it well, 5542 also visited along with 3205 which given the anniversary was great to see back as the loco that started it all.

A highlight with Leander was the late night round trip on the Friday from Kidderminster where the buffet car remained open and was still serving at 2am when it arrived back at Kiddie.

Going back a bit further I remember the visit of Bahamas in 1994. My first encounter was again at Kidderminster when having ran round, went to draw onto the coaches and didn’t stop and whacked into the carriages, breaking the window on the teak at the front of the train, which was duly taped up, thankfully no other damage and the rest of the gala she ran well without incident.

Maybe one day we will see 45699 to complete the set, 5593 having visited in 1986.

Seeing as the ASG is now next month, is there any more news on further guests, timetables etc?

    Morning Colin,

As much as we can really tell you is -

    - The next guest locomotive is due to be announced over the course of the next week or so.
    - The WTT and all the supporting documents, are being written and produced by the same team as the Spring Gala.
    - The well documented smaller fleet of locos the railway has means we have a smaller field overall than one would normally expect from an SVR autumn event, but it’s not going to be a disappointment.
    - As with the Spring when the railway releases an update it can be posted on here, but the railway must release first, otherwise myself (and any of volunteer) would be breaching our Media Policies!

Event is shaping up nicely though I promise!

Looking forward to the next guest announcement - I presume overnight running is pulled this year?

Thanks, Harry. As it always does.

The SVR ASG is always the (steam) highlight of my year. I have been to them all since the first overnight running in ?1996.

    Of course it was.

I remember riding up Eardington Bank in the dark and in heavy rain with Hinton Manor making it's presence felt on the front, while enjoying some Malaysian chicken soup and reading a copy of Steam Railway.
