Quite a few railways down here in the South West have cancelled operations due to the ongoing storm, and some of those that are running are getting it in the neck on social media for doing so!

Helston have cancelled all the weekend’s operations but Bodmin are still running. Paignton running but the Polar Express is cancelled on the South Devon.

West Somerset have cancelled Saturday, East Somerset have lost power so forced to close.

Avon valley, Dean Forest still running, Pontypool & Blaenavon have cancelled the morning’s services but hoping to run this afternoon.

a difficult decision for any railway given how much revenue comes from Christmas operations.

With an earlier RED forecast for part of the SW and Wales, which included winds forecast up to 90 mph (two reports of 92 mph actual on the BBC) no surprise that a number of heritage lines have had to react.

As you state, a difficult decision to make at a good revenue earning time of the year - but safety has to come first.

It is a difficult decision if your railway or main catchment area is in the red or amber area.
However if you are in the yellow area then it is really not much different today to many weekends.
See my post #1955 on the wind up thread for my view.

Talyllyn have announced the cancellation of tomorrow's services. Lots of trees down and damage to Brynglas blockpost roof.
