Sadly not many visitors realise there are things to see and buy at Glyndfrdwy. Turnover on our stall was well down on SSS1 simply because so few people were getting of the trains to come and have a look round. Other traders were saying the same. It's doubly annoying as our booking confirmation said we'd be at Carrog where we were last time but things were changed at the last minute.

    Guys,
It certainly was our intention to have all the stands at Carrog. However, we had a big problem with the Farmer at Carrog who owns the field which was to be used for the miniature railways and 2ft Gauge in particular. His requirements for a Hire Fee and the terms of use were unnacceptable, and nothing like his original offer to us.

Consequently the field at Glyn was hired from a very obliging Farmer (who incidentally would like to develop the field as a Park and Ride for the Railway) and the traders and railways that couldn't be fitted in at Carrog had to move here.

We understand your feelings about people not realising the extent of the exhibits/stands at Glyn. We have a meeting to discuss this at 9am. I am proposing to have 2 banners made ASAP to put along the station fences to tell people to get off the train here for Miniature Train Rides and Stalls.

If possible I will ask for one raised miniature track to be re-sited near the fence to attract attention.

Thanks for this Quentin. Anything that can be done to improve the "foot fall" at the Glyndyfwrdwy site will be most appreciated.

Does the driver of the auto train dislike photographers? I ask because yesterday he/she closed the regulator when approaching the galleries at Garth y Dwr and the angler's crossing after Glyndyfwrdwy only to open it again after the train had passed. A tad annoying for those who had purchased the programme and/or travel tickets, of whom there were many out photographing on Sunday at least.

Great day at the gala on saturday.I spent most of the day from 7.30am till 7pm taking pictures and enjoying the countryside as well as travelling the length of the line.Well done to all concerned. One minor point The beautiful centrespread photo of 9017 in my copy of the programme was ruined by poor reproduction. I feel sorry for Craig whose picture it was.

My pics of the day are up at

Iwould suggest mentioning it at LLangollan when people buy a ticket, after all getting of one and then back on later upto corrag gives you the chance of riding behind and additional train in your journey, alternatively a good stop of on the way back down. Maybe an issue on an single ride ticket, don't know if this is an option as I am leaving riding myself till later this week (after payday).

Photos from the weekend are now up on my fotopic website, http://www.jeff-albiston.fotopic.net

Decided to go again yesterday at the minute, but instead of linesiding like I did on Saturday, got some rides behind 6100, the Dukedog, 246 & 1306 and the Black 5. Two very enjoyable days with Sunday's weather beating Saturday's weather by a mile. :)

    Hey all
what a brilliant weekend, good to meet up with you all.

Had to come back to reality and london for work today.

Excellant weather, everything to plan and had a great time.. I will post a few pictures shortly and a bit of a description of our doings... thanks to Will Naylor and the guys for their efforts.

One thought for the weekend, my wife and I took:
    1. Virgin to Birmingham,
    2.Arriva to Ruabon,
    3. the Bus to Llangollen,
    4. 246 to Berwyn,
    5. 44801/ 6100 back,
    6. 3440/5199 to Carrog,
    7. walked to Glyn,
    8. 9017/44801 to Llangollen, #
    9. 6100 to Carrog & back
    10. 246 on freight to Carrog & Back
    11. Walk to Berwyn
    12. 246 + 1306 to Llangollen
    13. Bus to Ruabon
upto this point everything was to plan, nothing really behind schedule, and if it was everything was pretty much ok then...
    14. 17.11 Wrexham to Marlyerbone was canceled.. we had seat reservations for this service
    17.46 to Birmingham was late,
1801 to Chester was 20 minutes late
1835 to London was missed by 1 minute
    15. 1850 to Crewe (150 250)
    16. 19.29 to London Euston arrived 10 minutes early !!!

Maybe Betton Grange should take over the Chester line and run a plandampf to get things on time !!!! :)

A great gala so far, even including the problems with the dragging brakes on the observation saloon today. The last run this afternoon with 9017 was the best of the gala so far. Much better than the very off-beat Scot. I'm not going to be home til Wednesday evening, so doubt photos will be up before the weekend. Roll on tomorrow with the D49!

If you can get there at any time then do. I don't think you will be disappointed. I know i wasn't. I can't wait to get there for this Sunday.

    Regards to all

My first day yesterday, and I have to say I think I'm in love with a wonderful 'Dukedog'!!!!

Pitty the trains became a bit late.

Due to 5526 needing water, I was very very very lucky when I went on the pay to play at Carrog and 'drove' the engine to Gyndow.... the next station.

    New cammra working well.

Really anoyed, the landscape around the railway is alot better then Swanage!!!
