The loco allocation policy is really a question of the best tool for the job than pleasing anyone, as such, which is actually more in WCs interests than anyone else.

Yes for Saturday if I didn't want to drive to MK the it would have been an advance single to Coventry and back from Crewe. Normally MK or advance tickets to/from Crewe or back from London. No tours are cheap now unless you think £109 is cheap, but I agree probably the best value out there

A certain Mr Smith of Scarborough perhaps endorses your sentiments Stuart.

Totally understand that Henry as well as maybe a desire to confound the "demands" of press / enthusiasts expecting to see the MN on the big fells trains influencing things a little perhaps? Again, his right to do as he pleases.

Obviously some confusion as I am some 4,000+ miles south of the UK at the moment?

For various reasons I am not doing any trips at the moment. When I am, pickups at Watford Junction suit me very well, but the CMEs are now missing out that stop, with a not-very-good connection from Watford by service train to Milton Keynes. And the one on 23rd didn't offer Euston either, starting at Milton Keynes.

The Watford morning stop disappeared when the 86 was u/s for most of one season and the two 47's that replaced it could not accelerate as quickly. I am guessing NR decided that it helps the overall situation to still not stop there in the morning.
The two Milton Keynes starters (although one got cancelled) were because it went via Birmingham and Wolverhampton which takes longer than via Nuneaton, but still needs to hit the regular path further north of course.

Seriously? A tank engine could do that road. What a waste of a Class 8.

Indeed. Being able to enjoy a pint whilst watching BIL rumble into York station of an evening is one of life's pleasures for this member of the middle c whistle brigade!

Only if the "tank engine" attracts the same number of customers as the Class 8; I would posit that a named green Class 8 would create more interest than any unnamed tank engine.

Probably so, if they know the time of booking which loco they will have, but often it is specified only as one of a pool, or not specified at all, or it changes.

Anyone heard anything about the 14th? Still being advertised on RTC's website with no rider about diesel assistance.

Not sure about that, if it was a blue one with a face and a big number 1 on the side, I suspect a fair few would turn out. ;)

I'm wondering what the format of the CME on the 14th will be assuming it runs. The Fellsman is steam Hellifield - Carlisle and back only according to UK Steam. Would the CME loco work light from Carnforth to Carlisle via Hellifield.
