Indeed. I mean, I'd be quite happy with a free trip!

Interesting, I had booked 3 seats, upon which I was informed, for a booking of 3 we would be allocated 2 window seats.

In a way, it's discrimination against single persons. Same with the single supplement for some hotels.

The funny thing is that if you book a room in a hotel then the price is the price whether there is one person or two people in it - e.g. Premier Inn. However if you book a tour with, say the RTC, who use Premier Inn as one of their hotels, then you pay a single supplement. Explain....but we digress.

....aaand perhaps some would say its also discrimination against 'Northerners' when one company charge the same price to Carlisle from Preston as they charge all the way from that-there-London ? ;)

I booked one trip on line just over a week ago. They emailed me on Thursday saying they'd tried to phone me to collect the payment but I can see no record of a call from them. I phoned them this morning and paid.

I wonder if they are working though the bookings in trip order rather than order they were booked?

The trip which I booked on 31 December last year is the Pennine Moors Christmas Explorer next December, so perhaps they'll get round to me once all the booked places on the earlier ones have had payments taken.

They took my payment on the phone today, when I booked. I'm more concerned about getting the wrong loco on the day. Crewe-Shrewsbury-Stafford-Crewe, LMR loco required. Still, if it is the Bulleid, I won't worry about not having a window.

I’m booked on the Welsh Marches Express on the 16 June and have just discovered a final reminder email from Saphos trains in my junk mailbox with a payment deadline of tomorrow. This is the only contact I’ve had from Saphos trains other than the initial booking confirmation so I t may be worth other prospective passengers checking their junk mailboxes too!

I had exactly the same thing happen, found the email in my junk purely by chance.

Wonder how many people miss the email and therefore lose their bookings :(

As I missed out first time around, I'm going to ring up tomorrow and ask if there's a reserve list...

Your posting prompted my to check my junk folder - and yes there it is. A mail asking to complete payment by Friday... So a priority call tomorrow.

It seems therefore that such assignment of Sapphos mail as junk is common by email hosts. Be warned...

Periodically check my spam folder and still haven't received anything. Not the best start of an enterprise.

As I understand it they are working through bookings in train date order. Mine is for 1st July. So if yours is after that then it looks like they just haven’t got to you yet.

I get the feeling they have been surprised (aka unprepared) for the speed with which bookings have come in.

50% discount and surprised at the response? Maybe.

I rang again last Wednesday. As someone mentioned above, they said that they are working through the bookings in trip date order, but he asked if I wished to give my payment details whilst I was on the phone.

I did so, but suspect all they have done is note them, because as of this evening, the transaction hasn't appeared on my card account; either as a transaction or a pending item.

Yes same here. Just got my cc statement, no money taken yet. And on reflection no authorisation code and no 'that's gone through' when I was on the phone. The guy said something a bit vague like 'you will see this on your statement in the next few weeks'.

So maybe we need a more sophisticated online booking system where you select your seat on a first come first served basis? Works for other operators.
