I note that there have been several Russ Hillier photo charters.
How do you get to know about them &/or join in ?

    Thanks

    Jon,

Picture loughborough4 (with the clock prominent) is superb. Top class.
One question if you dont mind: everytime I have done a night shoot at Loughborough I have found it very difficult to hold the detail in the clock face (it burns out), how do you manage this or is it a post production tweak in Photoshop?

    Regards,

    Ben

    Keeping the clock correctly exposed

    Hi Ben,
Firstly thanks for your comments! the issue you mention is very common problem with that pesky clock.......The way i get correct exposure is to get my main image correct first (lets say for arguement sake its 10secs @ F8 200 ASA) Then keeping the camera and tripod in exactly the same postion change your Bulb setting from 10secs to 2secs for example. Take another shot & what you'll have is 2 identical images but different with exposures.

Then take these 2 images put them into the preferred processor (ie Photoshop) import them both and move one over the other, add a vector mask & "hide all" (hide all when theres only a small fraction that needs to be revealed) and then with a brush set to the exact diameter of the click @ 100% do 1 click to bring back just the clock exposure.

Final result:- Correct overall image & clock face in 1 picture...... Before i got some ND grad filters i used a similar method for over exposed skies but used the camera raw to make the darker image by 1 or 2 stops.....

The link below describes the process in photoshop in more detail.

Please feel free to ask me any more questions im always happy to share my process's with others....

I will try to write a new blog with proper steps to help others with this pesky clock

    Cheers
    Jon.

    Charters

Hi Stuart, Ive been doing charters for just over a year now, and i can safely say all my best images are coming from these. Russ is the main man for the GCR but will run others around the country with a Gent Called Geoff Silcock. Don Bishop runs alot of charters mainly down in the SW so you get alot of GW & SR on his. Also theres the Compo club which is run by Simon Hopkins & Martin Creese, Simon is quite simply superb at running charters and has a wicked sense of humour. In fact the banter on all charters is very good, you will also get to chat with some of the best guys in our hobby to!

Russ will have charters on the GCR in January around their Winter gala, i expect black fives will figure in these.....

To save me waffling on have alook at the blog on the link of my great friend Mike Mccormac's site it has most of the info you need.

For Don Bishop use this link:-

Hope to see you on one in 2010!

    Best Wishes

    Hi DMR,
Link appears to be working at the moment, we have had problems with the hosts server over the weekend so its quite possible this is what you suffered.

    Hope youve had another try.

    Best
    Jon.

That happened to me when I first clicked on the link, a simple page refresh sorted it out.
