    Is it only me who really rather wants this to be the Association of Railway Signal Engineers?

    We once had a track inspection team based at Stockport, also a fast action response team similarly based in Stockport , both managed to evade the capital letters being noticed for a week or two and even managed to get the titles printed up

    Thought I would put this in here:
    As a buxtoner born and raised I'm appalled by the constant short term thinking and political goalscoring that mires this fiddling with local health services, but that's another story and not railway related. What is related however is what, if any land peak rail actually own on the old midland station site, we in buxton hear many times that they do own land but as is said in the article, they sold bits of that land twice over the years, so what they are left with is very little I imagine.

    If there are any Peak Rail shareholders reading this and who sympathise with the aims of the action group,a request has been issued in the latest update issued by email today.Namely,that they contact the group and submit details of their share holding if they have not already done so.
    Speaking as a share holder,I am saddened at the current state of affairs at Peak Rail.
    One fairly obvious failure is usage of the internet for publicity.The website is dull and rarely updated,the members' forum has remained unused for over 2 years.Also,Facebook and Twitter are barely used,a big mistake in this day and age,I feel.
    I don't know if the full contents of the latest update are meant for public consumption,so I shall say no more.Suffice to say,they do not make good reading.

    Good job I update on here then plus the peak rail volunteers facebook page,the signalling members of the railway facebook page and the email group for the department

    According to the latest magazine of the railway the website is having an overhaul so previous comments about it have been heard

    As for the members forum I used to use this too with updates but with six updates every week to do I found facebook.a.lot easier, I used to be on twitter too many years back but don't anymore,as with most things it takes.more than one person.to keep.news updated but we do try where we can

    Keep an eye out ,feedback always welcome

    With respect (I do enjoy reading your updates, it reminds me that Peak Rail exists at all!) none of those are really in the public arena proper. Just wish I was a bit closer to get involved, I have looked into public transport from Sheffield but it's just too much of a hassle to get to Rowlsey. Matlock on a running day however is a different matter, so I shall visit soon. :)

    Aha indeed you mean like a public relations manager

    One thing will do is manage to put up what the other area groups who support Peak Rail do, some hold talks and shows,especially in the Sheffield area,there's also the Darley Dale talks that start again this year, so far looking at the magazine the Sheffield area branch will be holding a talk on Monday 5th ,"My Swansong " a digital show on Ken Horan's footplate and line siding days.

    There is also a Derwent Valley Branch show on January 23rd which is presented by Richard Booth of the Ashover Light Railway Society on their progress at Rowsley (worth seeing,the last one was good) this should be at the Whitworth centre just up from Darley Station

    The Chesterfield Branch have a talk on February 20th on the "Jubilees at Millhouses shed",held in the Concert Room at Hasland Working men's club,1900hrs doors open.

    Lastly the Derby Branch on Monday 5th February will be hosting a talk on the Great Central Railway by Bolunteer Ian Pettit,for more details contact Nigel on 01629823581

    In other news, thankfully it didn't snow or rain today,as opposed to yesterday where I spent three hours out in it repairing a set of points elsewhere and was ridiculously both warm and sunny, John ,Rodney and Myself spent the morning altering round some of the facing point locks at Rowsley north end ready for the box, before moving onto sorting out a large pway trolley for the Midland lamppost for Church lane which will be the next job on the list to install, then we finished off by digging the hole for it at Church Lane even further into the earths mantle neccesitating someone holding my legs while I go down the hole to scoop out the muck that centuries ago was the old riverbed.

    Up at Rowsley the Mencap gang were busy filling in bits round the site,Matrin,Kev and Andrew have been tackling the other side of the class 25s radiator sets,pipe work and such, Kevin continues to resurrect one of the pways sleeper liner units which is very handy and Rod has been getting some seriously big bits of oak ready for cutting to make the support parts for the other tank waggon and welding me up some old facing point lock rods for reuse.

    Plans have moved forward well with the crane for the box lift so hopefully soon that will be given a date

    Apart from that lot I'm glad the rains stopped,the river derwent was very high in the last few days,the little island at Rowsley in the stream has gone underwater and at Riverside the other night the footpath was well underwater under bridge 35,it's usually weather like this the dams release some extra water to ease the pressure on the dam at Derwent and you get a spectacular sight of the valley at Darley turning into a lake,it's been a good few years since I last saw it..

    yesterday Dave,John,Andrew and Rodney and myself installed the MR lamppost at Church Lane to improve the crossing visibility for the bobbies in the winter months, also thanks to Ben and Harvey for getting the post ready, all done by hand from digging the hole to moving the post by trolley from Rowsley upto site and with the aid of a winch getting it into the hole, still some connecting up and finishing off at the top to do plus a repaint,reminds me of putting up signals by hand.

    We also managed to fit the other rail flange lubricator at Riverside as well as another at Rowsley on the sharp curve into the station ,thanks to the shed crew and Harvey for some quick welding of the never the same brackets that come with most projects making us finish just after dark by land rover headlights.

    Back to more maintenance and installation work next time.

    Had a quick call in on the LMSCA gang who were busy sprucing up 7828 now she's been in service for a while, the goods van inside is getting there too with some replanking and skinning that Harvs been doing a lot upon.

    Nice work dom, not a fan of those swan necked lights myself (prefer Victorian lanterns), but I think its like the original based off pictures I've seen?, is it in a position where a lamp post was before? Pictures I've seen of Darley dale are sparse and of varying time periods but there is enough information to get it right.

    Now I can only work of what I've been told but apparently they were usually cross cornered,eg one on the up near side and one on the down offside gate sides, there was a footbridge on the side where the box is now and the box was a little set back from the crossing so that the footbridge could go right next the crossing,so theoretically it is possible the lamp on the box side was nearer the footbridge bottom steps for obvious reasons.

    The only pic I know of a lamp at church lane is in "Rowsley a rural railway centre" on page 15,where it shows a traditional lamp,on the gate up side and Also one atop the footbridge riser.

    Aizlewoods Mill car park. The menacing parking notices are to tackle daytime abuse. Aizlewoods confirm Harlequin patrons can continue to park in evenings. 'Policing' only done by Aizlewoods staff (who finish at 1700). The London security firm is used just to process any parking notices instigated by Aizlewoods.

    For those that do not know it is the AGM this Sunday, open to members and shareholders alike. After recent events there are questions that need answering and people that need putting in the spotlight, numbers is power so if you are a member or shareholder, Just being there would do a world of good.
