I came across an old family video the other day from to Norfolk in the early 2000's, and was surprised to see a narrow gauge railway I didnt recognise. From memory it was a bygone village attraction near to Great Yarmouth with a couple of old fairground rides, saw mill, IMG_0394.jpg and large indoor play area. (Definitely not East Anglian Transport Museum, Thurford, Strumpshaw, Bressingham)

    Any ideas appreciated

    Thanks

    Stuart

This is the Bygones Village near Fleggburgh. The loco is Motor Rail 9869. Sadly all gone now.

amazing - I thought I'd dreamed this place, dimly remembered from about 1989. Another one, which I don't think was Bressingham - can anyone help with?

Real backwoods Norfolk - Windmill in a sort of walled garden (or next to one) with an autotruck pulling people round in 2 waggons, another 2 foot gauge operation the other side of the wall, couple of traction engines and a display of stone coffins... would also have been late 80s.

I think you are right with Bygone Village near Fleggburgh, though the state of the loco puzzles me a bit. MR 9869 had a rather smart steam outline body when it arrived, but the picture looks as if it was running with it removed. (I can't see the "coal bunker" in the op photo). The usual working loco was the re-bodied Severn Lamb diesel (now BAZALGETTE at Crossness pumping station) ex Stoke on Trent Festival Railway. Perhaps this was a hasty stand in?

This is MR 9869 not long after arrival, building the railway.

Didnt the Swedish 2-6-4t from the Nene Valley go there? Where is it now?

It's at Bearhurst Farm, Battenhurst Road, Stonegate. Just about visible on Google Maps, below the three silver silos. Westland Wessex XR502 is also there. Not sure what else.

No. 1928 used to be just about visible on Streetview, but the last visit by the camera car was in a summer so the trees are in full leaf sadly.

No photo, but that sounds like Yaxham Light Railway, near Dereham. It is still operating but is private

I can't say I remember the coffins! But at one stage there were two ng railway lines either side of the standard gauge branch to Dereham (now the Mid-Norfolk Railway). The windmill by the way was a dummy and has gone.
