I'm not surprised he had the wiper going, the amount of clag going on...

Has anyone ever got Erv Kanemoto to have a look at a deltic?

Good post Victor, five Deltics through the town where I grew up, the station before it was redeveloped, and Stalybridge signalbox still in operation along with its modified G&SWR frame. Many a Saturday afternoon spent in there in my teenage years, happy memories. Thanks for posting.

Gotta love the timing of that customer announcement warning passengers on platform two the approaching train wouldn't be stopping ...just as the train clears the end of the platform having already passed through!

Would expect 55002 to be a demic now, as the damage highlighted to the NRM, prior to the caretaker group being prevented from maintaining her would now be at engine rebuild stage.

The NRM did themselves no favours with the short sighted view to stop work, after so much cash had been raised to get her going again.

I know people often talk about things being overpowered for heritage lines but this is ridiculous.

You say "worse". I say "better".

(I'd love to have seen the Deltic convoy but by any standards 16500hp for twelve miles of not particularly tough gradients at 25mph is probably a bit much)

The information is more than likely lurking in the deep dark depths of the internet, but from what I remember one of them was only on one engine so although it was a record for hp (UK) it wasn't the full 16500hp.

Correct - D901 / 55016 was working on one engine during the event hence the actual power was only 14850 hp - still a massive power output !

I am dubious whether they were running at full power for very long, if at all. With little more than their own mass to accelerate, they would have got from rest to 25 mph very quickly.

As a very rough estimate, if one locomotive can pull the other four (400 tons) at 100mph using 3300HP.
The power requirement increases as the cube of speed, so with 14850 HP, you could do 165 mph, and with 16500 HP you could do 171 mph.

I'm not going to speculate on what bits might fall off if you tried!:)

Probably everything would fall off the track.
