I don't have the exact scrap dates, but at that time Norway was rapidly rebuilt after the war. The scrap metal was too valuable to bet let just rusting away.

Pardon my error thru mistranslation of the German texts which led me to understand that, wherever the duo were operated in Norway, it was linked to the Atom Bomb developments.

Easily done. The common denominator between the two was that the sabotage actions were against the electric power installations. In one case for the heavy water production, in the other for the electric railway power supply.

I have photted all but four of the 99.22 s they, are 997231..39..44..46 . In 1976 I saw 33..37..40..and 47. My records not up to date by a long way, show 39 and 46 stored at Benneckenstien,44 stored at Hasslefield,31 not seen at all .997247 which as mentioned I saw in 1976, was put aside at Gernrode for eventual display at the Transport museum in Dresden.
Any-one interested ,please go to http://www.flickr.com/photos/5611hongkong. I have a album Harzer Schmalspurbahnen, 1976-2003. Also I have a Album ,East German Narrow Gauge Loco's in the Snow.I've managed to visit all the former East German narrow gauge lines that still exist when snow is on the ground .The one missing is the Dollnitzbahn ,Oschmtz -Mulgen,they dont'opperate with steam in the winter very often, but I visited it on a cold frosty day.,.Sachsen German Loco's is the album for this line.
Due to the Soviet listening station at the top off the Brocken , the Wernigerode area wasn't a easy area to visit before unification There were no hotels open to foreigners in the area, hotel reservations had to be shown at border crossings ,no hotels booked ,no entry. In fact I don't think there was many more than 15 hotels open to foreigners in all of the GDR.The only way to visit the Harzer Schmalspurbahen was to stop off en route to somewhere else .I done it en route from Gera to Magdeburg by car.

I was a frequent DDR visitor from the late '70's until Reunification and, surprisingly, despite being stationed with the British Army in Paderborn (West Germany), and driving a car with the special 'British Forces in Germany' registration I never had any problems.
Being a proficient German speaker made things easy, and I detected a certain 'respect' for the British amongst the DDR authorities, and certainly amongst the proletariat - "..when is Maggie Thatcher coming to kick-out these Russians?" On one occasion, a border guard asked me how was the British Army!

I managed to obtain an Hotelführer" - book of all hotels in DDR, and it was simply a matter of ringing them to make a reservation, before my visit, simplifying procedures when I rolled-up at the border Reisebüro, paid my hard cash, and received the vouchers to enable visa issue. I don't have the "Hotelführer" to hand, as I'm packed for a house-move, but I reckon there were at least 200 hotels. It's just that the authorities wanted foreigners to stay in the expensive Interhotels, to get the hard currency, especially if you booked in UK through Berolina, the DDR travel agency. I frequently, also, bought Camping Vouchers at the border, in order to get the visa, but never went to the camp sites, as there was no tie-up, frequently staying with Loco drivers in Saalfeld, Nossen etc. In the Harz area I stayed in hotels in Quedlinburg and Nordhausen - Wernigerode was always full, because it was a tourist area for the DDR hierarchy.

Read my adventures (in German) and admire my photos :) in www.Drehscheibe-online.de, Historische Forum (same pen-name) - "Meine xxxx Große Dampfjagd" ("My nnnth Great Steam Hunt").

Booking with Berolina could be fun. Stayed in Dresden a few days before the Wall came down and we had to take breakfast and dine in a different hotel to that in which we slept so mealtime was trek down the road. :)

TEFS tour 1976. Overnight in the Interhotel on Alexanderplatz for overnight, then two stops on the Underground to a restaurant for breakfast. Bloody hot in Berlin that summer, I recall.
