A new loco ran today at the Groudle Glen Railway, John B's 'Steamplex', a diesel to steam conversion. Delivered yesterday, in traffic today!

She ran really well, her owner was very pleased.

This little loco has the loudest exhaust I have ever heard on a narrow gauge loco!

Interesting little critter! Will she be used on regular services?

Yes, on 'off peak' services probably, although she has proved to be much more powerful than had been imagined by her owner. She still has the diesel gearbox, so you can 'change down' on the 1 in 30 bank, and she really digs in. It's a bit like a one truck shay!

I was at Groudle for the gala on Sunday. I was extremely impressed. Immaculate track, immaculate locos, no festering scrap piles, staff who were genuinely friendly and happy to be there. Everything a narrow gauge railway of this type should aspire to be. And running a service of an intensity which would make Clapham Junction worried.

And a loco stud that would rival Stewart's Lane or Nine Elms it seems...
