I’n sure the locals will appreciate a 20 and a 37 running through the night.

That sounds like quite a big own goal.. I'm all for trying something different, but you need to consider those around you.

No worse than a 66 being stuck outside your house at 4am going 'ying ying ying ying ying' as my mate used to have to put up with.

I remember when the SVR started doing night running there was a lot of consultation with neighbours and they used to specifically choose a 'quieter' locomotive - Taw Valley used to be a popular choice. This helps keeps locals on side, annoy them and it will be all over social media in an instant.

    I can't think of much louder locos than a 20 and 37..

I am not so sure about that, they defo used both Manors over night the one year.

I don't think people really mind if it's a one off and have some notice.

Like I say, plenty of people who live near mainline railways with trains nearly 24 hours 363 days a year. One of my old colleagues used to work night shifts and lived near a branch line where 30 wagon steel trains would run by shaking the house!

Those that do not mind, (and I do not agree with your premise "it is only a one off") will say nothing, those that do mind will say a lot, which these days is very easy via social media.
If those people in the new estates at Woodhouse were getting antsy over a few photographers, then I am sure they will just let this pass as a "one off"
People in Swanage complained about the 37 during the first Wareham trial, and they have trains passing their back gardens about two thirds of the year.

Maybe they should not live in a house next to a railway then?

Thoroughly enjoyable night spent on the GCR. Perfect weather for some atmospheric photos at last and first light

Some images taken with my iPhone. I'm not a photographer, so they are all if it looks nice to me, I tend to take a picture of it.
