All this 'discussion' elsewhere with regards to liveries for locos such as 6100 and 4472 etc, made me wonder about exactly how many ex-BR steam locomotives in preservation either do, or have, worn historically inaccurate liveries?

For a bit of fun, for starters:

    80135 (BR Green)
    46203 (BR Maroon)
    35005 (BR Blue)
    60532 (LNER Green)
    1306 (LNER Green)
    62005 (LNER Green)
    7827 (GWR Green)
    46441 (BR Maroon)
    44932 (BR Green)
    3802 (BR Green)
    53808 (S&D Prussian Blue)

That's off the top of my head - I'm sure there's plenty more!

    6443 (LMS Black)
    6960 (Pre-War GW Green)

and haven't a couple of Jinty's run around in BR Maroon?

Being really pedantic about it, 5043 has the wrong BR Emblem for the loco's condition.

You perhaps have to better define 'ficticious liveries. do you mean ones that might have been carried except for time eg 2005 in LNER green, or the ones that have been applied having no regard for their past; eg 41241 in maroon lettered KWPR. Then do you consider industrial locos/ That is a minefield.

44932 ran in BR dark green back in the 70s.
    (4)2073 LNWR black
    (4)2085 CR Blue
Another Black 5 at Carnforth sported Furness Railway livery for a while in the early days but its
    number escapes me.
No end of WD 0-6-0STs have pretended to be a J94 with either LNER or BR numbers.
Former Hunslet 0-6-0ST 'CUNARDER' pretending to be a Fowler 0-6-0T no.47160.

I think 7029 is BR, so GWR livery is inaccurate.

6024 ran in GWR livery with a BR era double chimney.
4498 had stainless steel cabside numbers and tender lettering, something that was reserved for the 'Coronation' batch of A4s AFAIK plus it's mechanical condition is largely late BR so should really only carry BR green but who cares as long as it's a runner?

When built wasn't this loco S&D 88 and therefore Prussian Blue is correct?

Meanwhile 73050 has been restored and is in black livery on the Nene Valley. However this loco wore BR Green all it's working life. It went straight from production line to the International Railway Congress at Willesden for which it's paintwork had been especially prepared.

I was thinking in terms of historical inaccuracy with regards to the individual locomotive's history, in the sense of why I listed 46203 in BR maroon - right for the class, wrong for that actual class member.

I set the parameters to 'Ex-BR' to avoid the obvious industrial minefield! ;-)

IIRC it was plain black, not blue.

AFAIK S&D 88 never carried Prussian Blue as this livery had been discontinued by the time it was built. As for 73050 being BR green all it's working life, this seems to be a bit of an urban myth as there are a number of pics of it in BR days in BR black. On the NVR it has carried BR black, BR green and BR black again.

Prussian Blue was for S&DJR passenger locos only. 88 has carried plain black with similar lettering in the past, although this was also inauthentic. I think the only liveries she can authentically carry are LMS black (as 13808), and BR unlined black (as 53808).
