Police have been called to a railway line after reports of an explosion.

A local resident raised the alarm after hearing the bang and seeing a cloud of smoke rising from the line behind Poole Stadium in Dorset on Tuesday night.

Railway engineering staff were also called and after an inspection they confirmed the explosion had been caused by a failed ceramic conductor.

A number of residents gathered at the scene, but no-one was hurt and the line was not damaged, police said.
