Yes, it was a frustrating day weather-wise. There were some glorious spells of sunshine but somehow, never at the right moments...

Trying to plan a journey to Bury on Sunday from Stockport but I can't seem to get any train (or tram) times, is there some engineering work on the line to Piccadilly?

Oh crikey - the old ELR Gala day curse strikes again! Seems like every time the ELR has a Gala there's engineering works on the Metrolink.

Looks like the damage to the overhead wires between Stockport and Piccadilly is still causing problems as well.

    Typical!

    that’s next weekend isn’t it.?

    from Metrolink website

On Sunday 20 October, work will take place on the Bury line

No tram services will operate between Bury and Crumpsall.

A bus replacement service will operate between the affected stops from 9am until the end of service.

Before 9am, there will be no tram service across the full network due to additional works. You can find out more on these works on our dedicated webpage.

Some footage from the East Lancashire Railway Autumn Steam Gala, with Britain's oldest operational steam locomotive, Furness Railway No.20, and BR Standard 9F 92134 visiting from the NYMR.

My guess would be part of the inconvenience of fitting bars is it makes it harder to open doors from the inside at stations, requiring more of a volunteer presence on platforms and slowing down the flow of passengers on/off the train?

My contribution for Sunday, weather stayed dry, but nothing like the amount and timing of the old current bun!

With Furness 20 having repairs on Saturday morning, this lead to the bonus of the Lanky Tanks double heading.
