So the Dinting site is fo sale then.
I think it has a future in the right hands, but why did it close, and what happened to the shed?

The society did not own the land and was unable to secure renewal of the lease when it expired, so they had to leave. I have no idea why a new lease wasn't available since the site has been left empty ever since.

Questions that would need asking are 1. does many mainline excursions head that way or round the area. 2. how many local people would volunteer to keep it going. 3 where is the money going to come from. 4 what do you want to see from there?? i would love to see it up and running but not at the expense of another local heritage center loosing out from volunteers and trade.

25k is not much money expected from the land. so its cheap enough. so if other railways had spare bits lying around that they didnt want possible cheap start as many people have fond memories of the place.

I used to frequent Dinting in its final years as most of the lads from work used to be volunteers there, wed have a day nearly every week and nip up to see what was going on site.

connection to the glossop line was always a bugbear cost wise for incoming and outgoing excursions,we eventually found a slip of paper with the cost of the connection on it which made interesting reading.

the site would indeed make a good little centre yet again as you say it has no purpose as anything else, hence its abandonment ever since, shades of asbestos?,waste land and a listed building on the site,

I remember being taught how the midland tumbler frame in the museum shed worked by our locking fitter there, the signalbox is now at the CVR as an office on froghall station, the frame that used to be there in dinting days is still in safe storage as is most the signalling.
