[Dec 19, 2019] Crewe Signalling Gala (Crewe)

The 'Exeter West Group' are pleased to announce that there will be a signalling gala weekend at Crewe Heritage Centre on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th June 2020. This event was due to be held in 2019 but had to be cancelled owing to some health issues.

At the time of writing it is not possible to give full details of what the event will comprise, as organisation is still on-going. Further details will be posted here in due course, or you can follow progress on the Group's 'Facebook' page '@ewsignalbox.'

The event will very much focus on traditional signalling, and if there is anyone out there who feels they could make a contribution by mounting some kind of display, I'd be pleased to hear from them at: peterjordan@manx.net

‘Hands on’ opportunity
You can have an hour operating Exeter West Signal Box for the princely sum of £10. Experience the thrill of a main line junction with both the Great Western and Southern main lines involved, lots of special bell codes in use, freights using station avoiding lines and bank engines assisting trains up the 1 in 37 incline to Exeter Central station.

Places are strictly limited and must be pre-booked in advance by sending an email to peterjordan@manx.net

 

I will begin by asking that folk disregard all previous publicity regarding this event, which is significantly changed now. This is the situation as of Tuesday 18th February 2020.

Over the weekend we have managed to retrieve a little something of our June signalling gala, and we are pleased to tell folk that Adrian Vaughan is still going to come along to Crewe that weekend. We will be hosting him in Exeter West Box and he should have his photograph collection available for people to view and, maybe, place orders. He’ll also be happy to sign any copies of his books that you may bring along – or just come for a chat!

The Exeter West Group will also be staging a small sale of railwayana, items that we have surplus to our requirements. We’ll try and let you know what is on offer beforehand in the hope of tempting you along. All of our other exclusive sales items will also be available for purchase.

So Adrian will be with us on Saturday 13th & Sunday 14th June. There will be a bonus if you come along on the Saturday because we understand that, owing to the other event that is being staged at the Centre that day, admission to the site will be free, whereas usual admission charges will apply on the Sunday.
