    That'll be nice for them.
Can see a 9681/9466 double header.

The final gala appearance of 5541 before her ticket expires end of the year and the DFR's first steam loco Peckett 2147 'Uskmouth I' should be completed in time.

2147 worked at the Power station of the same name on the outskirts of Newport, 9681 was allocated to Cardiff East and 9466 Radyr (Cardiff), so a Welsh connection between those locos.

9466 will be the first red route locomotive to ever run on the DFR.

That depends on if you are including the Severn Bridge Railway which became part of the S&W, if so then a Black 5 would fall under the red category - 45407 worked through to Sharpness in 2007, it also went down the other side of the river the same day but came off at Lydney ;)

Even that wasn't the first, if you include the two Castles that were used for load testing the bridge in 1956 ;)

Yes fair play, I was there on that day in April 2007, shame it wasn't 76079 as booked as that would've been able to work up to Parkend.

Yes they were indeed, on a ballast train - https://www.flickr.com/photos/rustysea/8499960645
I was on the train, remember it well 9681 and a class 27 top and tailed the DFR section :)

I will add there were several Castles & Halls which were scrapped at Sharpness along with some other locos. I’m not sure if any ever made their own way there but all the photos I’ve ever seen seem to suggest not.

It is a shame about 9466 and seems unlikely Peckett no 2147 'Uskmouth No.1' will be in traffic as had been hoped for.

There was a photo charter with 9466 planned today, not sure if they have a substitute loco or not. After the rain of yesterday, today is remarkably sunny (at least it is 25 miles away from the DFR!) so would've produced cracking results.

Any news on a replacement for 9466?
