Of all the preserved german 01-class pacific , no. 01 202 has to be the most well maintained and lovely looking in my opinion! I just love this engine and here is a great video of it from 2019. Thanks a lot to the filmmaker!

Interesting to see that the German OHLE is much less intrusive than ours.

A friend of mine is involved with the loco and they keep it immaculate. It's a cracking performer too.

There can be few better looking locos in my opinion. They performed pretty well too.

I think it's fair to say they're not happy with how the latest overhaul is progressing at Meiningen! The loco moved there in March 2023 and is meant to be ready to move back to Switzerland at the beginning of September this year. A small crack in the foundation ring was discovered a few weeks ago and repaired; now a much larger, irreparable one has been found and so the loco needs a new foundation ring. As they said on Facebook, why was it only found now and not a year ago when the boiler was removed for overhaul?

New foundation ring rivetted in position looks like the preferred option - a snip at €350,000! Return to traffic expected summer 2025.

One option that wasn't possible was welding a new foundation ring in place. The other option, that was rejected, was complete replacement welded boiler and firebox, about €600,000.
