There is a simple answer to this that we have discussed before. The way that WCRC is set up and what it does mean that a diesel is often needed. Tornado runs with DBC that has specific operating procedures in respect of permissions to use a diesel. For that reason it is rare to see a diesel on anything steam when DBC is the TOC.

It does but if this isn't available that's when the diesel goes instead

If WCRC had another problem or failure of some sort I expect they might have the ORR breathing down there necks again which is something which nobody really wants after the recent incidents.

Pacifics more specifically, Bullieds and A4's have gone to grief on the climb to Churston before, but they have their own class 25 should a banker be required at a local level.

More than likely a good reason why the rear end increase with WCRC in 2016, but not exactly the punters fault they were not up to scratch and got caught.

Apologies, a typing error. What I meant to say was "Why do almost 100% of Belmond Pullman train now run without a diesel on the back?

You got my hopes up there!
It now looks a very disappointing outcome with only the choice of 34067 (which will probably come with it's usual diesel support act) or 35018 which isn't even ready yet?
I wonder if they might send down the LMS loco's instead?

How sensible! :D Anyway some non-Swindon products do have a history of misfortune on DSR metals, however, next year, when the S160 is due to work the line, a review of thoughts may be made. ;)

Imagine the racket that would make dragging an errant Bulleid up to Churston, Lord Dowding shot down over the red cliffs of Goodrington ? *runs for cover*

Except what's the point of WCRC as a steam TOC that won't run steam???

Well it provides money for loco owners and groups etc which then filters down into preserved lines etc. Not to mention the public advert they provide and the fact that, although it does happen more than we wish, the diesels don't push all of the time.

Bet they run more steam only operations than DBC! How many Jacobites again...

Not strictly true. Drove braunton last year on a couple of torbay's, what an absolute fantastic machine, even in the rain with 11. The only things that really struggle up goodrington if its not bone dry are the A4's.

Horses for courses to be honest. But we'll give anything a go....

Are bookings down? On this train? Overall?
If so, are the bookings down because these trains have a box on the back?
Or are you just guessing based on your particular opinion (again)

Must be guessing, I don't travel but photograph a lot of ML steam and only rarely can you hear the diesel doing any work. Certainly wasn't shoving 34052 up to Whiteball on Saturday. Look at my picture on the Dartmouth thread you can see the sanders are on, no need for that with rear end assistance
