I did look on the ASTT website, but couldn't locate it. It may not be in the public domain yet, but has been presented at our past conferences. I'll check with the designer for you.

Where did the type 107 boiler that was previously on FS come from then?

The A3 boiler currently on Scotsman was previously on other A3s prior to its selling to Pegler and overhaul.

The A4 boiler was the original spare boiler, fitted for the first time just prior to the Australia trip and then used all the way up to 2005.

Parts were swapped round by the LNER loco works, it’s a fact of life. Scotsman actually retains a surprisingly high amount of parts allocated to it.

I believe that Scotsman came with a total of three boilers? Salmon Trout's was always the spare in the Pegler era AFAIK...

I proposed doing something similar with the Austerity 0-6-0ST... we've seen side-tank and tender conversions (not to mention certain GWR 4-2-2 replicas!), but it would be comparatively simple to convert them into, say, an 0-6-2T, or if you were willing to cast new wheels, an 0-4-4T, or a 4-4-0, or a 4-4-2T...

Side-tank conversion I must have missed that Austerity conversion, where? I have to say whilst it is possible to use parts of Austerities as a basis of other locos, why use up a perfectly capable heritage railway locomotive, when producing the big lumps like cylinders has become so much easier these days with modern polymer patterns etc etc. What I'm really saying is why make do trying to use slightly incorrect parts when you can make new the correct part.

PS was having a senior moment on the side tank conversion - my mind tried to make me forget the Thomas abortion.

Think for some of these the only austerity bits you could use would be boiler, cylinder block and axles. But that's not a bad start.

But all of these have been produced during preservation, why spoil a perfectly capable heritage locomotive for many short run railways just to:

Produce something that is not quite right.

Save a limited amount of cash compared to the overall cost of a new/half-new build.

I'm all for new builds, but let's not get into the territory of its only a Austerity so let's rob it of useful parts please.

So that was the one fitted by BR before the loco was first bought by Pegler?
So was this the spare off Salmon trout?
Most certainly - I think Yeadon's has a full list of boilers used on various loc0s.

With the double chimney at least - why make life difficult for the fireman....

A double Kylchap is not the only, or necessarily the best, answer.

But it is a tried and tested and effective answer, and was used on the original locos.

Single chimney multi nozzle - of which there several options available, from Lempor to' Le Koopmans'. A small and entirely reversible modification and well worth it if it allows us to dump the ears and the dull paint...
