The recent upgrade to Windows 7 has knackered Corel GuideMenu! Unfortunately this is the program I use to transfer video files from my camera to the computer as it uses the timestamp for each file as a filename.

Corel have an update for GuideMenu http://www.ulead.com.tw/Ulead/Survey/campaign/Canon_DMF/member.cfm?pg=6&fs=us but to run the patches GuideMenu must not be running which, as memory based program, it is doing constantly. Now when I was was working it was common practice to remove TSRs from a computer's memory but as I have been retired now for nine years I'll be damned if I can remember how to do it!

    Can anyone help?

    Regards

Try using WinDV, I have used it for some years now and date and time stamps each file. http://windv.mourek.cz/

Bill, thanks for the advice but unfortunately WinDV only works with a Firewire connection, not mpeg-4/usb. I have emailed Petr Mourek asking if he has produced a new application; I'll let you know the outcome.

I have spent a good deal of the morning on the phone to Corel and Canon support groups. They have both created a wonderland Catch-22, Corel insisting that their software, because it was bundled in with the Canon camera, is Canon's responsibility, while Canon are saying that they were just passing on third-party software therefore the problem lies with Corel.

I suspect, from the Corel website, that Canon sponsored the production the GuideMenu, and now no longer wish to support it, therefore Corel don't want to know either. I wonder if anybody has recently bought a Canon camera and can advise if Canon bundle in a different software package now!

    Regards
