Very interesting. Anyone else notice that about half-way through there's a sound like a fireman shovelling coal? Spooky!

VERY NICE, But sadly i remember the crewe open day of the mid 1980's as i child with my big bro and father i walked around the cutting shop and there were class 40's waiting or in the process of being chopped up.

I wished more class 40 had been preserved but BR had other ideas.

I still have some Ian Allan spotter books from the 1960's and apparently I saw some of the Class 40's as I've marked them off. Can't remember where, though - I know used to see a lot of 37's then, including the one fitted with experimental flickering strobe lights on the front, but where I saw the 40's is lost to history!

Thats excellent, spent many long hours "40 bashing" as it was called back then on the N.Wales coast and the shed at Northwich.......
