I'm no expert, but yes I should think the size does make a different to draughting/steaming.
I do also think however that the 66xx boiler and smokebox size is not that different to other similar boilers, it is just that the loco chassis is rather short for that size of boiler, so it appears too large.

Apologies for the lack of updates of late - we've had a few big events over the summer, especially two in August which used all the steam loco dept at the S&CR.

Today however, we had a big team (with some new members joining this week) and we beavered on with some big jobs.

The Vac Pump is now connected and ready to go, the loco has had some paint treatment and Cab floor has been fitted and will be treated post steam test.

Speaking of steam test - watch this space next week!! It will be behind closed doors, but we'll keep you updated!

Well - WE DID IT! 6695 has passed her steam test, with a few caveats required to get her over the line, but nothing to ownerous.

All being well, she will be in steam next weekend (24th & 25th Sept) performing some load tests. You're more than welcome to come see her and try and catch a ride behind her.

Pictures of the day attached and some videos will be uploaded to the S&CR Youtube Page and i'll add them here asap.

A big well done and a pat on the back to the steam loco team at the S&CR.

This weekend (24th & 25th),6695 will be out and about at the S&CR performing loaded test runs following her boiler test last week.

The public are encouagred to come and see her move about under her own steam! If you're lucky, you might even get to ride behind her on one of the test runs!

Please be aware that during this period of testing there will be lots of tinkering and that you may not get to ride behind 6695, however you're more than welcome to join us!

Lovely to see and well done to all involved, a massive pat on the back is well deserved :)
The next question to be asked is what livery is it going to be? ;)

A sucessful launch of 6695 today at the Swindon and Cricklade ralway. The loco looked splendid in its livery and is a credit to the whole team who have worked hard to complete the overhaul to a high standard. I look forward to crewing the loco in the future.

'95 looks good. I particularly like the painted safety valve bonnet; nice to see a loco not blinged up like a fake showman's engine.
