I have just heard from an unofficial source that Braunton has failed its FTR so anyone out for this tomorrow should check first.

I would have thought that after its FTR for The Sussex Belle the loco would have remained in steam and therefore not need a further exam - ergo a significant problem has arisen if the rumour is correct.

If the crew reported anything amiss on Thursday, that would hopefully be mentioned to the FTR examiner who would pay extra attention to the possible cause.

Safety of the railway comes first before commercial pressure, performance or enthusiast photos. A FTR examiner bears a considerable responsibility and his name is on the authorisation for the loco or stock to run.

    Cheers, Neil

Doesn't the FTR last 72 hours? Bear in mind it came up on Wednesday, it would've had an FTR on Tuesday, so would've needed another one before Saturday anyway. At least it's failed now and not on the tour.

Please don’t read too much into my post. I said it was from an unofficial source and I only posted it to say it may be worth checking before going out tomorrow

I've now had a message ( from a source outside LSL) that 34046 will not be available for the outbound working, but may be ready to work the return trip.

    Cheers, Neil

Are they really going to send a LE up from Southall to Worcester to bring it back?

The general response when I asked on a Facebook group for LSL was “where’s this b******* come from?!” Does any of these outside sources have inside insights?

I think it's best to leave it till tomorrow morning. It only takes one person to spill the beans and announce the situation.

Fair to say I’ve already unwittingly caused utter carnage... but yes tomorrow will give us the answer

Panic over, RTT allocating 34046 and photos on FB show loco in steam at country end of coaches.

RTT allocation is "planned" "not "what actually turns up". The steamy thing at the end is promising tho.

Nephew just sent a vid at Acton of 34046 at the sharp end.
However, a friend who works for the railway has posted this...
"Just been told the steam charter is not being allowed on to Worcester depot.
Reason being given, it's too long and will block the walk ways.
I think this will apply to all charters from now on. A lot more shunts will be needed. Could reduce the number of charters coming to Worcester long term ( H&S strikes again)
Don't know what the plan will be. But it will make things very difficult. Will either go in yard or Long siding.
And of course Loco will need water & coal, which is coming by road. Also will not be able to fill the water tanks for the WC's"

Just noted it didn't stop at Kennington loop for a drink. Anyone any idea of a change of plan? Oxford North Junction perhaps?
