New Echo arrived this week. Bogie modifications completed motion works ongoing. Slave boiler now removed and overhauled boiler being finally dressed for out of frames hydraulic and steam tests.

Just yesterday, Maindy Hall's boiler has been steam tested, out of frames, for the first time since the locomotive was withdrawn.
This is a great achievement for the 2999 group, and now the in-frame test is needed.

Brilliant! I remember seeing the locomotive way way back in 2007 when the frames and a few other bits had been done. I was admiring the squared off frames I recall. I think this was also before her name was announced potentially?

Another worthy new build/rebuild coming into steam soon. Can only be good for the movement. Keep it up ladies and gents - it's a grand job.

I remember donating to the original appeal in about 1975. The lack of progress in the intervening years stopped me from donating to any subsequent Didcot appeal.

Anyway, once the boiler is in the frames, the final steps will need to be done: pipe fitting, boiler cladding and insulating, cab fittings installed on the firebox backhead, valves and blastpipe work in the smokebox, and etc...

Dear Santa, all I want for Christmas is a 4-6-0 from the Great Western. One that dosn't look like all the rest... Oh wait! (Tin hat, flak jacket and AWACS scrambled!)

And yet here we are, with a Saint class locomotive close to reappearing. Good things come...

Fantastic job on this. I like the squared front framing too, looks a bit different to other GW 4-6-0s. All this Southern and GWR stuff is distracting me from the LMS!
