    Whereas I prefer to see them spick and span, not as they mostly (with occasional exceptions) looked when steam was neglected, both because it was on the way out and for shortage of cleaners.

    I agree, personally i always think Clan Line is to bulled up. Can't remember them looking like that in my spotting days at Clapham Jct or Waterloo.
