Wasn’t West Coasts 44392 originally in the frame for ERTMS fitting but then dropped from the NR program?

This morning RTT showed a Crewe to Kidderminster ecs movement at the start of what looks like busy week for LSL. So purely out of curiosity I went to see having expected just light engine moves for the gala. 37409 (built 1965 as D6970 at Vulcan...

Although Tornado is indeed somewhat more complex, I don't think the third cylinder and associated stuff makes much difference to the task of designing and installing the ERTMS stuff; and the fact that Tornado already had a lot of electrical...

A detailed account of the day using known film is available in the PSOV DVD "9th May 1964", including interviews with many of the crews and supplementary footage.

[ATTACH] With waving from onlookers all along the sea wall 7029 Clun Castle charges along the sea wall at Dawlish, seconds before a Voyager hurtles the other way.... the castle was just in time. [MEDIA]

According to Six Bells there were four Castles used on May 9 1964, 4079, 7025, 7029 and 5054, plus the Hall 6999 when 4079 failed at Westbury. Great show the last couple of days--it can still be done.

7029 was safely back on shed by 1am, catering unloaded, rubbish cleared and team debriefed. It was a pleasure to be able to do virtually no management on 1Z48, simply because it was unnecessary. The enlarged team including FGW, Bristol and Laira...
