    Smooth doesn't necessarily equal comfortable.
I'll be abe to rank the GW set on my list of stock after the 3 round trips I have on it on Saturday.

This is purely a personal view, the shorthand references to sets works perfectly for staff and volunteers and appears in the SVR documentation, the standard and amended WTT and the weekly traffic notice. For two weekends of the year we extend the curtosy to enthusiasts to help them get the best from the galas by publishing what are normally internal documents. The roling stock codes are the normal ones we use day in day out. if the traffic notice says M(7) I know I have 7 MK1s in maroon and when I enter that in the journal my inspector knows what the stock was. Given that the WTT is primarily for staff & volunteers and we are happy to explain the codes to the enthusiast comunity why should we not stick to what we normally do. It is not exactly rocket science.

    gets down from soapbox

As far as comfy stock go's I have to say Im more a BR MK1 guy bit more room in a TSO bay of 4 as a slightly bigger gent (6'4) really not keen on an overnight on Mr Gresleys stock. Hawksworth towers is the ultimate in non sleeper stock..

I will be there tomorrow and Friday so I thought I'd have a quick look at the last few pages of this thread. All the analysis of the various sets has sent my brain into meltdown. Nothing to do with the real ale consumed this evening of course.

Looking forwards to a couple of days riding behind steam.

Some people just like to cause trouble.
In Australia for instance back in the 80’s the Steamrail Victoria main line set would be numbered A, 2, 3 and so on. Coach 1 was renumbered (lettered!) A, but A often found itself in the middle of the consist.
And coaches 3 & 4 were regularly back to front. And that was BEFORE we started on the beer!

I don't get why the stock has been designated as S1/S2/S3 etc but locos have been left as themselves instead of Loco1/L2/L3 etc.

Surely both should be consistent, and therefore either / or, instead of creating the confusion that's being discussed?

Another WTT query. The 2332 arrival at Bridgnorth Friday and Saturday night is shown as an LE move in the main table but in the Bridgnorth shunting instructions it reads for 2332 "Arrival of breakdown train - store in loco headshunt".

    Any ideas?

Its just an Le move. There is no breakdown train or anything extra. Just 43106 coming north. This was decided after the wtt had been published.

There is no balancing breakdown train move away from BH so it may be an error

Has anybody ever had a venturer breakfast. How long does it take to get served? If I get the 0848 off Kidderminster, will I be able to have my breakfast and get off at Highley (due in at 0932)?

It gets worse: Set M(8) is actually 7 maroon mark 1's plus the FE coach which is a Blood and Custard BSO
GW2(8) has an LMS coach on the KR end to make it up to eight thus giving the consist as 6 GW, 1 LMS and 1 mark 1 (the RMB)
And set N is 6 teaks, the maroon liveried experimental open and the slightly (read quite) grubby Blood and Custard CK which was part of set C (soon to be in set M when they get round to repainting it)

All we need now is some southern coaches...

Usually the service runs through to about Hampton Loade if you want the full experience, it usually goes on departure from Kidderminster they serve the cereal, which takes you up to Bewdley, then toast is served, then the full English, then more toast with tea and coffee throughout. I don't think I can recall anyone ever getting off at Highley when using it (the bill is usually issued just after Hampton Loade).

It would be nice but I cant see anyone wanting to part with even a no hoper. KESR might be the best bet but we would be talking years to restore.

Perhaps all the odd grotty coaches that need a repaint could be quickly done in SR green in a year ready for the 50th gala, giving the ability to have complete trains from all four grouping companies, now that would be something, how many other railways could say they've done that!?
