Twitter = No, we are still trying to get Twitter to close the account. We have removed references to Twitter from all our public outputs though.

As for your second query, Cheddleton Station was taken over in 1974.
Sand traffic from Oakamoor continued until 1988.
The Trackwork was bought in 1992, with the first train in 1996.

Do you know how the hack was done? Was the password easily guessed, did someone write it down and leave it somewhere, or was it left logged in on a shared computer?

We're unsure at present, we suspect it was someone formerly involved with the railway who had access to the passwords, but until we can prove it we wont really know for sure. Either way it has been decided to dispense with Twitter, and leave just the Facebook Account (which 3x of us from the MPD have admin rights to) and the Website.

It's learning the hard way sadly, we had an attack on our servers at work over christmas, all stemming from one easily guessed password (Which is a bit like using a screwdriver to lock a safe). Took weeks to sort it out. 4,000 followers is a lot to throw away though :(

Not really, as for some reason most of our Twitter followers are from Turkey & Brazil. Can't see them coming for day trips...

Many residents of Oakamoor always were, and remains to this day, extremely anti-railway reinstatement, and indeed anti-development generally. Several surveys around the time of early preservation and subsequently proved that the locals would do everything in their power to prevent railway operations in that section of the valley. They are also constantly complaining about the continued existence and expansion of Alton Towers, another "blight" in Staffordshire close to their village!

I think the fact that the trackbed at Oakamoor would have required permanent way building from scratch as well as liasing with the council (who also have to please the residents mentioned above) was also a factor when compared with the prospects of Cheddleton where in contrast, 7 miles of track was already there (once freight traffic had finished) and BR would be the sellers of the trackbed. I suppose at the time there was always a risk of the "Chappel & Wakes Colne situation" where the adjacent BR line never closed, but luckily (for the preservationists) the sand traffic did finish a few years later.

How does this fit with the latest plan to lift the track and install a miniature railway?

It doesn't really have relevance as the proposed miniature railway won't be in the Oakamoor village area.

I see that the Oakamoor section will soon be no more , reports suggesting the closure and lifting of that section

Majority of the line from the Quarry to just South of the former Froghall Junction is being lifted. However until anything official is released Idon't want to say too much incase I miss something out. Rest assured though there are plans in motion for this section.

One of the planning documents associated with the MCR planning application for the Leekbrook triangle deals with the costs of reinstating the railway to Leek and states the proposed construction is - "A new single line railway using serviceable bullhead rail, chairs and fishplates bought from CVR (recovered from the Froghall - Oakamoor section.)" - see document "Leekbrook To Leek Track Estimate Commentary".

It is not possible to provide a direct link. For the full list of documents (and there are a lot of them so make some tea first) see http://publicaccess.staffsmoorlands.gov.uk/portal/servlets/ApplicationSearchServlet?PKID=51214

Someone's playing silly buggers on the CVR twitter feed. This has to stop. It looks appalling to those of us on the outside - I don't know what the argument is but someone needs to get control back of the CVR twitter account very quickly. Can someone contact someone with that ability ASAP? Yours sincerely, a concerned observer.
