Tried to get some pics of nunny and braunton on shed at st. Blazey this evening but because of the turntable being out of action they were stabled out of public viewing range. I also got soaked looking for places to see them!

Anyone going to take pics at Falmouth/Truro tomorrow ?

Almost certainly Braunton had to take the DL with her because of the lack of a second path. And the fact that a DL is also needed at Falmouth today means that yesterday's leg from Exeter was actually helpful in the grand scheme of things.

Personally I find the GB tours a bit expensive but that's only because you have to take a First/Premier option and if you can fill the train that way you need less people to do it rather than offering Standard. But the other factor, of course, is that you are also paying for a DL plus crew to trundle around Britain with you or at least be within striking distance to assist if there is a problem and for any stock movement. That makes obvious sense for WC at any number of levels who need their own motive power somewhere local.

Monday will prove to be a bit of a marathon - on the go for nine hours with only limited stops - so some fok will have to take a sandwich if they are not dining. However, it seems that the DL may be following through to Preston where it is attached. Given the many tweaks needed for Day 3, you do have to hand it to both WC/RTC and NR for sorting out a 60 mph path and also for finding a path for the DL to get up north separately without having to hang off the back of the train with all the consequences for a Black 5 plus 11. All credit where it is due, I think.

Just noticed there's no stop over at Carlisle.
I would of assumed the diesel would be needed to assist the 5 up Llanvihangel.

Think I'll pop out to Dainton to watch this one, on the off chance the sun might come out. Anyone know of any good photo spots? I usually head for the bend at Combe Fishacre but fancy a change!

    Hello,

I am following the railtour on my book of the road map, could one of you learned gentleman please tell me how the engines are jiggled for St Austell to Falmouth and back? There is nothing on RTT about reversing or turning, magic carpets or top and tailing the engines...... I appologise if this has already been discussed before.... Thank you.

Slightly odd combination, but 5029 leading 34046 up the bank at Grampound Road sounded rather nice! In sun too. 47746 shut down on the rear.

Looked good coming up past penweathers junction too - no sun just rain in Truro so my pics were rubbish!

Also the steep climb of Horfield bank soon after the train departs from Bristol. Does anyone
remember Tangmere coming to grief here? That was on a day blessed with good weather.

It's a shame that Braunton cannot continue north tomorrow. A Black '5' and West Country
double-header would be very nice .....rekindling my memories of the Pines Express and my
local Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway. <BJ>

GBVII load seems smaller than in previous years. Leaving Victoria the load was 9+POB:
    99723 3058 99122 99316 326 99125 99127 99712 3093
It should be within the capabilities of a Black 5 on the Marches route.

Incidentally, visitors to the WSR in the past may remember travelling in the Taunton Cider buffet car with loose tables and "wheelback" chairs. This vehicle (ex FO 3058) has been refurbished by West Coast Railway Co and is now back in main line service on GB VII, named Florence.

Well it definitely had 10 + POB (= 11) up Honiton (plus the Class 47), increased to 12 today with the POB for Nunney Castle..

The Castle is certainly the more audible in the middle of the train. Sometimes she's even louder than the running commentary from the gent two seats back.

GB7 safely through the engineering works along the seawall with the VSOE 20 mins or so behind it.
No other trains passing through today as far as I know. <BJ>

More likely the Castle expending lots of energy into the air and the Bulleid putting it down usefully onto the rail :)

Out of curiosity: On a multi-day tour, do you always get the same seat each day, or do you chop and change? If not, it could be a long week!
