Anyone got any recommendation for a place to park up overnight? Doesn't have to be a campsite.....

Abbey Grange campsite in Llangollen, otherwise head up one of the lanes up the hills around Glyndyfrdwy.

This is my first expedition so I'm a bit of a newbie at it.

My intinerary so far is to start on Monday morning in Monmouth and visit the Dean Forest that Day, driving to Kidderminster that evening for Tuesday on the SVR and then Ironbridge in the evening followed by Llangollen the next day. Then I thought a loop through Snowdonia and down through Wales finishing at the Gwili to see No28, stopping of at the obvious places en route. :). Does that sound too ambitious? Am I missing anything obvious?

Is that an official Llangollen Railway site? I'd like to patronise them if so....

Snowdonia to Carmarthen is a long way, beautiful, but you won't do it in a hurry :)

I'm not in a hurry...travel in the evening, park up for the night, play trains all day....seems a good plan to me....

With regard to the SVR, off the top of my head there is a campside at Hampton Loade which is approx. 5 minutes walk from the station.

There are also a couple in Bewdley - i've walked through this one a fair few times on the way to the chippy:

Again, its only about a 5-10 minute walk from the station. Not been to either as i'm lucky enough to live locally to the SVR, but they are the two that first spring to mind.

Edit: Thiking about it, there is a car park at Highley about half way down the road to the station. This is run by the council, with the gate usually closed around 6/7ish. I guess if you were just looking for somewhere to stay the night that was off the road, this should be OK?

The Unicorn is convinient for SVR if not convinient to drive to. I have not camped there but have been to the pub for lunch. If you buy a freedom of the line ticket you can start and finish your journey at HL I would not recomend thecouncil car park at Highley as to memory there are large signs prohibiting overnight parking. I susoect that you might get chucked out.

Parking in Llangollen is a nightmare. Have used Carog for Betton Grange SSS2 and SSS3. We stay for the week and use the railway to go shopping as its more convinient than parking at Llangollen.

Nice wide and long gravel layby at the side of the road by Hay Bridge near Eardington station.
Dunno how busy that road is over night for a quiet night's kip, but you can't get much closer to the line without parking on a level crossing!
