Had a good day at the SVR today, 3 in steam (one on the dining turn) plus the DMU. All trains barring the first off Bridgnorth were filled near to capacity. The festive service timetable this year works very well and the valley really is beautiful on a crisp winter's day like today. Well worth a visit!

It may be of interest that 5643 is booked to run Thursday & Friday (potentially also over the weekend), before departing by road soon after - I'm unsure as to whether it is heading straight to the Bluebell or whether it is making a trip home first? 4936 also leaves the railway next week for Tyseley. There will be many at the SVR sad to see it leave.

Is the diesel repaired now at NYMR ?

The railway website had a message saying all steam now into the New Year, and that seems to have been removed...

    Thanks

But there is a stationary carriage warming plant at Pickering, isn't there? So the chill should be taken off the stock initially, even if it gradually returns! Personally, I think the NYMR ought to consider transferring the equipment from the LMS boiler van into a GUV or BG (or even buying a modern boiler and creating an all-new boiler van based on a LWB goods van). I think it would pay for itself relatively quickly and provide cover for non-boiler fitted diesels.

I understand that 75029 and 45428 were both in use yesterday so D7628 may just have worked the first trip of the "diesel" diagram to get back to Grosmont.

    EDIT

The reason the diesel was in use yesterday was that the annual Pickering to Whitby Charter we operate one day of the Christmas/New Year week was yesterday, requiring an extra loco, so 45428, 75029 and D7628 were in use.

Anyone on the south coast on New Year's Day, pop in to the Hayling Seaside Railway. Where we will have the Bagnall 'Wendy' in steam and on passenger trains!

Also at Beachlands Station, we have a small gathering of Citroen 2CV’s of the ‘Pompey Puddleducks’ and ‘Fils de Vitesse’ classic car clubs on display by the station.

Trains start at 10am, with steam from 11am and every 45 minute there after!

NYMR website showing 45428 and 75029 in action today and tomorrow.

There was a rumour of the B1 on Sunday but not confirmed by the website.
