    All

Does anybody out there know the tolerances for 10x5 GW axle boxes, I am looking for the dimension between the horn guide and box clearance.

No I do not currently volunteer
I don't have much on these, but a trawl turfed up two drawings - one for a Toad & another for a 20T Loco coal wagon, both on 10" x 5" journals and show a stated dimension between the horns of 9 1/8". I don't have a drawing of an OK split box to get the other dimension, but I'd guess at 1/16" either side.

Both drawings came from Swindon Engineering Society pamphlet No. 44 "Carriage & Wagon Rolling Stock" read by FW Marillier on 27/10/1903.

There's an online PDF copy here: http://tinyurl.com/pzmme5a

http://tinyurl.com/pl736rr might be of interest to both of you too. It's a copy of Lecture 117 on 10 Ton Open wagons from 1912.

    Hello All
    Ollie5764, I am working on a toad 17464, AA21 at the AVR

Pete thanks for the info much appreciated, Our CME at Bitton did ponder the clearance could be 1/16 so I think now I will work to this dimension. I have GA drawing for a toad and the dimension between the horns is 10” 5/8.

yeah 5/8" certainly sounds about right. We are hoping to start work on her sister 17410 soon!
