I for one would love to see 35005 back on the mainline. Although I thought because of the cost the MHR were talking about coming away from that idea?
    Thanks

Guest mainline appearances (3 or 4 a year) so she can be based at Ropley for most of the season is something that is talking we are talking about. There was even talk of us getting a support coach (nothing serious tho)

Surely it would be more than that? After all, it's not cheap to get a locomotive equipped for the mainline, 3 or 4 trips seems rather small with the large sum involved into getting to that status, even without the added cost of getting a support coach.

At this years MHR AGM meeting. Some members asked about what is happening to 35005. Some members have asked if the loco could earn its keep on the main line and also used on spot hire at other railways. From what I have heard the loco won't be going back on the main line because of the cost. But things could always change. I can't see the benefits of putting another MN on the main line when before long there could be three MN's (35018/27/28) running on the main line.

Does seem the future of the 35005s mainline status is in the air. The talk of the gang (which is what I am going on) was she was going mainline but she does have a smaller tender now so it would make mainline operations harder than it once was. We got a few years to decide what is happening but we havent even decided what livery she will be appearing in. On Cheltenham they knew before they even started on her.

Isn't there only one livery 35005 can go in. BR Green with the later emblem on the tender.

Probably because she's an NRM owned locomotive and I'd think they are the ones that decide?

Hardly much of a choice for 35005 livery wise though....! Brunswick green with early emblem or Brunswick green with late emblem! Unless you go down the non authentic route again and paint her BR blue which she did look smart in.... anyway, I'm sure the livery is one of the last things on the minds of the people overhauling her.

She could go in BR Blue as its part of the locomotives history and would make her unique compared to the other MNs.

They could always try BR black! Be Interesting to see on a Rebuilt. Remember they have been know to be in BR Black way back when..... (Just throwing a spanner in the works here!) o_O
But no, in all seriousness only has to be in the livery as she was before overhaul for me! Also going back to her Tender, they could always look into building a bigger one for her for the possibility of mainline use and I have to add I don't see why they don't go down the mainline route to re-coup some of the the costs. If I owned her I would, but then again I'm just a sentimental git that loves Can-Pac to bits!!

Main line running is not always the pot of gold that many think it is. There are also significant extra costs overhauling a loco to main line standards.

I did suggest the BR Black option and it wasn't well received. I am with on the Brunswick livery she looked stunning in that livery but then she would look good in any livery in my eyes.

She looked pretty good in BR Blue, to my old eyes anyway. My son has one of the Hornby models in blue, with the box signed by Andrew Naish who was once CP's owner. He sued to volunteer on the Watercress Belle as a pot washer (in the pantry, next to the kitchen I work in)

What price for all the 'main line' gubbins? At least £60K, and probably more unless much of the kit already existed? TPWS, OTMR, AWS, NRN? Now OTMR.

Oops! I meant that when I put OTMR a second time. Too many acronyms. Imagine if this had been the done thing in steam days; 'Before moving off , the CMO needs to ensure that the DCL is in the right direction and the MMA is off before operating the GFL.'
