Haven't seen as heavy vignetting or blue clouds as those on that last one in a long time... But I like it! Great photos!

Actually I did this in a bit of a hurry and slipped on a slider, not meant to be that heavy vignette :) , it was dark enough! There was a genuine patch of blue amongst all the crud, but I have tidied up the blue clouds :) Less haste, more look at the screen :)

I decided to stay at the lower end of the S&C today to avoid the crowds further north and it paid off weather wise as well.

Shortly after the "Brit" passed SHERIFFS BROW it absolutely lashed down!

and later in the evening I caught the "Fives" in a lucky (for me) patch of sun at NEWSHOLME.

Well I know all about the lashing down part :) Great shot at Sheriffs Brow, not seen that location for a while and it is a great composition.

We had to cross the unit at Darwen that we should've waited for at Blackburn, but progress up to the summit (and down the other side) was pretty pedestrian.

Overall a good day. 4 locos, some new steam track, plenty of mileage, all for £109 isn't bad going. Same price as some of Steam Dreams' marathon tours, but better value for money. Running throughout the day was good, nothing exceptional but the timings didn't require it. Only downsides were the very short break in Carlisle, which meant a mad dash across the road outside the station in the pouring train to the chippy, and the arrival time back at Lime St. Nearly 11pm on a Sunday night is too late! I've only just got home, and have got to be up for work at 7am. The short turnaround time at Carlisle also meant there was no opportunity to water the stock - after 13 hours on the train the toilets start to get a bit rancid with no water in them!

Nice to see your results and the chance to chat on the day although I would like to have seen what you would have made of the S&C; my still efforts from the day

    Fantastic pictures on this thread.

I managed to get the Old Man out of the house and onto the special from Piccadilly to Carlisle and return and he thoroughly enjoyed it (he doesn't give praise freely!). So now I'm looking at the shots thinking "now which one's coach E......"!

I have to say I enjoyed this as much as any other mainline special I've been on. Great timekeeping (OK early - yes early- running around Clitheroe, Blackburn, Bolton may have messed things up for some lineside photographers), spirited running, 44932 was a cop loco for me, good to see the S&C in summer (my other trips have been in winter), passing Scots Guardsman outside Carlisle, and a few cop lines as well.

Minor gripes - I'd have liked a little longer in Carlisle, but OK you need to fit in with available slots; the stopover in Longsight Goods loop at the end was a bit long - again, OK you have to fit in with available slots.

All in all a thumbs up from me and the Old Man,. Well done WCRC / RTC / one and all.

I combined film clips of the 2 returning specials through Settle where unbeknown to me at the time I had a nice chat with Martyn Garrett and partner. I think all three of us got shots despite latecomers perched dangerously near the platform edge in front of us !
