As someone might have said 'There seems to be something wrong with our bloody airbrakes today...'
If bulleid had designed an air compressor it would have been.....

Cheers Fred. I know testing time will be restricted this week at ELR because the air braked stock will be needed for the diesel gala. So if it runs the midweeks ok weds and Thursday it might be good to go onto the network. Ready when its done though.

Over at The Works, Ian Riley reports that the brake system has gone back together and functions correctly, so it's up to the VAB now. He also comments that Braunton is almost as good as a Stanier Five! I think he's impressed...

I seem to remember he bought one as a kit (Airfix master contructor series, scale 12" = 1 foot) because the comment was he was impressed, what's happened to it?

Maybe good news for the future of 35009 then. Mind you there's still 35027 to get on with as well.

Hopefully some mainline testing can now occur with 34046 and hopefully she settles down as a reliable addition to the mainline scene.

Braunton is still scheduled for the "Jolly Fisherman" from Kings Cross to Skegness on the 13th, is it likely she'll make this schedule?

I'm now getting really worried, I'm supposed to be on the Jolly Fisherman and its going to be my first mainline steam trip, but luckily I spoke to a man on The Yorkshireman yesterday and he said that since Oliver Cromwell is already down in Southall, it is likely to pull the train instead, whilst another engine from Carnforth Steamtown stands in for it on the coast-to-coast express the same day with 45305.

Surely with six days before the Jolly Fisherman rail tour it's going to be a close call with 34046. I can't see it happening myself. Does anyone know when the mainline steam test will take place.

    Cheers

It could all be academic if the current weather keeps up.

I wouldn't think it would take to many sunny days before NR would put a ban on mainline steam.

I love the summer. It throws even more problems into the heady mix we already endure.

Simple Solution: Do the test run after dark when it is a bit cooler.

NR steam ban now in force. Not sure how widespread it is but Tornado replaced today on Cathedrals Express.

Looks like 48151 is on this morning's Fellsman.
Staying on topic, big thanks to ELR for showing 34046 on the website on this week's loco roster.

Actually, after dark tests to see how effective the spark arrester is are not unusual.
